About me

Hello, I'm Susan. Welcome to my page!

I am an intercultural practitioner who has worked successfully with many different clients from different cultures, backgrounds and walks of life.

Anyone can find themselves in a difficult or crisis situation in the course of their lives, reaching their capacity, not feeling themselves, wondering why they are not coping as well as they used to. Suffering is common human experience and something we all share. I believe that every person has inner strengths and abilities to find their way through life’s many challenges but at times life throws us challenges that can be beyond our capacity to manage alone and we may seek support from someone who is unbiased, non-judgemental and compassionate, to enable us to gain new valuable insights, work through the challenges and grow towards the person we want to be.

I am a BACP Qualified Counsellor in the UK with 6 years of professional work experience with adults and young people. I have experience in helping clients with family conflicts, trauma and abuse, & motivation, self esteem, and confidence. I work with my clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life, to take the first steps towards a change and I am here to support & empower you in that journey and work with you to achieve the outcome you desire.

I use a mixture of modalities - Psychodynamic, Person Centred and Solution Focussed - to support the client’s I work with and because we are all unique individuals, I tailor and adapt my approach to best support you to make the changes needed to achieve your goals and live a more fulfilling life.

We can explore how you have arrived at a point of particular difficulty, what has shaped your experience, how you see yourself, the world and your relationship with others, how you have coped and what strengths you have drawn from. With this awareness, we can then explore what has and hasn’t worked for you, build on your resilience and find helpful ways to move you forward with the aim to alleviate barriers to wellness.

As a psychodynamic practitioner I work by exploring clients past experiences and relationships as the belief is that early experiences can have a lasting impact on the ways we think, feel and behave as adults. Along the way, many of us internalise beliefs that our thoughts and feelings are "wrong" or that our vulnerable selves are "bad". Often, these beliefs come from our earliest relationships and the social and cultural norms of our environment. The results can be feelings of anxiety and depression, relationship issues, low self-esteem, illness, work problems, issues of identity and addiction (to name a few). To repeatedly feel this way can leave us struggling to live in a way that is meaningful and authentic.

By understanding your past and how it has impacted on how you relate to yourself and to others - including how we experience each other in therapy - with the therapeutic support I offer you can begin to make changes in areas that are no longer serving you.

Therapy I offer is not prescriptive - it is not fixed in length for any particular goal or ‘treatment’ - but dependent on you as an individual, the nature of the difficulties and how long you have been experiencing them.

Although I cannot predict the outcome of my work with clients I am fully committed to work with you to achieve the outcome you desire.
