Susan Shadley

About Me

As a clinical social worker and therapist, I strive to create an environment of emotional safety in which we can identify and explore the internal conflicts and patterns of maladaptive behavior that leave you feeling distressed or dissatisfied. I want to assist you in gaining insight, skills and passion to achieve your most fulfilling life. I pride myself on building a relationship of mutual respect, understanding, compassion and validation while honoring your preferences and strengths as we work to resolve the issues that brought you to therapy.

I provide individual and couple services specializing in adjustment difficulties, relationship issues, anger management, impulse control concerns, depression, anxiety, addictions and trauma.

I also have experience with military life and culture. I have worked with veterans and military families. I believe I have an understanding of the unique experiences military members and their families often face.

My therapeutic approach will cater to your specific needs with an integrative approach pulling from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic and mindfulness-based theories. We will work together using these frameworks to develop a plan that is unique to you and focuses on those areas of importance to you. I believe everyone has the ability to change and I want to help you through the process.

Working with Miss Shadley has given me the skills I need to make 2020 feel manageable.

Written by M.A. on Nov 19, 2020 after counseling with Susan for 2 weeks on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma and abuse, grief, coping with life changes, and compassion fatigue

Susan has been very dedicated to reading my messages and responding to me in a very thoughtful, timely and dedicated manner. I am struggling with a loved one who is incarcerated due to complications caused by his co-occuring disorders. It has given Susan an opportunity to bring her extensive knowledge and experience with MDOC to the table. Thank you, Susan!

Susan is amazing! I was doing in-person counseling through a local place my doctor's office suggested. I wasn't gaining any skills or learning about myself and my behaviors. I decided to give online counseling a try and I will never turn back.

Susan has taught me ways to change my thinking and live in the now. She has helped me deal with troubles from my past, anger issues, and relationship challenges. I feel like I have a ton of skills that I can lean on when a stressful situation occurs. I have a unique family dynamic but Susan doesn't judge or make assumptions. I feel like she creates a safe environment where I can vent and learn about myself. I appreciate her time and dedication to helping me become a better person, Mom and wife!
