About me

The human brain is a wonder of evolution, its speed and efficiency is unmatched by anything else in the natural world. However, our brains have many flaws; they are subject to misinterpretation, over-reliance on patterns and judgments, and a drive for instant gratification.

Therapy is an investigative process in which a client walks together with their counselor in a collaborative way to gain a better understanding of how your thoughts and feelings are influencing the way you experience your life, relationships, and world. Everyone experiences emotional disturbances at some point in life. Often times we search outwardly for the solutions to our distress. We turn to relationships, substances, and other unhealthy behaviors and ultimately find that these things can’t fix our disturbance, they only mask for the short term and create new problems over time.

I believe that much of the information you need in order to lessen your burden comes from automatic thought patterns that developed early in life. Our history can give us a lot of data, but we must be constructive with that information once we have it. How can we move forward in a different way that feels better, more authentic, and richer? I utilize techniques that assist in identifying these unhelpful “shortcuts” in order to have better emotional outcomes and healthier behaviors.

Many people seek counseling due to loss, divorce, illness, or family conflict. Even welcomed changes, like pregnancy or new parenthood, engagement and marriage, and promotions at work can be stressful and difficult to adjust to. Perhaps you are finally ready to start addressing a harmful behavior or pattern, or processing the fallout from a dysfunctional relationship. Maybe you have no idea what you need, you just know that something needs to give. I would love to help you through that journey.

Research demonstrates that your relationship with your counselor is the primary vehicle for positive change and I take this principle with me as my guide in my work. Nothing can be accomplished without trust, compassion, empathy, and genuine care. It is my goal to help provide perspective, validation, challenge you when needed, and make the process as enjoyable as possible. Humor is of upmost importance when it comes to providing perspective, the healing process can be tough but it can also be fun, light-hearted, and relieving. It should feel good because it is good. I can’t wait to meet you and help get you started on your authentic way!
