About me

Welcome, and thank you for your time in learning more about me! My name is Tammy and I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Virginia. I have 10 years working in the mental health field and have worked in a variety of settings including clients’ homes, schools and medical offices. The majority of my experience has been working with anxiety/stress, overall life changes and mindfulness. I also have some experience with couples work, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anger management, family conflict, trauma, autism, bipolar, schizophrenia and intellectual/developmental disabilities.

The world of counseling was of particular interest to me as I’ve witnessed people struggle with mental illness and I wanted to learn the why and how’s of what they were experiencing. It was a fascinating journey of self-reflection and discovery for me during my residency and subsequent work that I've done. My goal is to be able to be a support for you to help you navigate through your difficult times successfully.

I take an eclectic, whole person, client-centered approach in my counseling practice. As human beings we are all very different, have different paths in life and have different goals and needs. I exercise sensitivity to your own culture, values and ideals to create a counseling environment that is unique to you. Cognitive-behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing are a big part of my counseling work. I am open-minded, thoughtful and supportive to my clients in our process of creating goals and working towards making positive change in your life. Mental health takes awareness, time and dedication and I am here for you during this journey and look forward to working with you!
