Tanya D Mizell, LPC
About me
I am a National Certified (NCC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Michigan, License #6401224388. I am a level two Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP-II) and a Certified Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist (ASDCS), as well as a certified Advanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapist (A-CBT). I have formal training in Telemental Health (CTMHP). I completed both my practicum and internship at a facility for high-risk adolescent girls who have experienced trauma from human trafficking, substance abuse, physical, mental, and verbal abuse, as well as abandonment, displacement, and other traumatic circumstances. I have extensive professional experience working with the physically and cognitively impaired population from adolescence to adulthood. Additionally, my experience as a mental health Clinician consists of diverse situations, which include help and support for those who struggle with comorbid disorders, grief, trauma-related, severe mental illnesses, and career-related difficulties.
I have focused specializations in Forensic Counseling, Career Counseling, and Addiction Counseling, and I hold a Bachelor's in Criminal Justice. I possess well over 20+ years of experience working with adult and adolescent clients who struggle with comorbidity or a dual diagnosis of neurodevelopmental disorders. I subscribe to person-centered and choice/reality therapy (CT/RT) and routinely use motivational interviewing to support my clients' growth and development. Because I encourage others to remain open to growth and development, I regularly work to expand my approaches with research-based therapeutic methods that meet the needs of many within this diverse and continuously evolving society.
Education
My Bachelor of Science degree has a dual focus on Criminal Justice and Psychology. I earned a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with a specialization in Forensic Counseling and Career Counseling, from Walden University in Minneapolis, Minnesota. As a Walden University alumnus, I am pursuing a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision (CES), with a specialization in Addictions Counseling, and an expected graduation year of 2027.
