My passion, for over twenty years, has been to help individuals cope, problem solve, and heal. As your therapist, my desire is to provide you with a safe space, where you can freely talk to me, without judgement. I want to inspire you and help get your wants met. Your current issues and past issues neither define who you are, nor define who you want to be. Change can be very scary and difficult, but most of life's great and prosperous changes come from conflict, heartache, betrayal, loss, unhappiness and confusion. I want to help you communicate better, allow yourself to use better coping and problem solving skills, and be able to have healthy reciprocal relationships with loved ones. I have over 20 years of experience providing therapy. I was born and raised in NYC. After graduating from Queens College with a BA in Psychology, I received my Masters Degree from New York University, in 1998. I have worked primarily with adults and families using a cognitive behavioral approach. I have mostly worked with people suffering with Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Sexual Trauma, Personality Disorders, Anxiety, and Schizophrenia. In the past 7 years, I've provided marital counseling, helping couples understand and verbalize their wants and needs, and make changes for the better. Please contact me today, as I am waiting to hear from you.

My life would've been very different if I hadn't been graced with Tara's guidance in the challenges that I faced in my life over the past year. Her insight is second to none and her methods were kind and direct. She gave me useful tools that I will use for many years to come to navigate my way through many of life's difficulties. Never before have I trusted someone so much as I have her and she made it very easy to do so. She guided me back and helped me to rediscover my own voice and to build healthy boundaries and practices that will aid me in years to come. I would not be where I am today without her help. I am forever grateful.
I joined BetterHelp to address a few issues personally and within my relationship. During the few weeks I have been with Tara, I have been able to rapidly address these and consider ways of managing it. I have found my sessions very useful and found Tara very empathetic.
Tara is a very supportive and caring specialist who understands what you are going through and is very honest .
I just would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Tara for her insightful thoughts and professional advice. It's very clear to me that Tara is not only a highly qualified counseling specialist but also a very experienced counselor. I am 47 and have just experienced a very sad breakup with my girlfriend. I am very grateful that this website platform exists and more grateful that I have professional counseling from someone as compassionate and understanding as Tara, who most importantly, has given my situation much thought and offered me deeper insights in relation to my emotional pain.
Tara has also communicated with me in writing, in between scheduled sessions, and has put in a lot of time communicating with me via the "email chat" process. This is great because discussions can be read and re-read to help get ideas across with ease and clarity.
I thank you Tara for being there and helping me get thru this cloudy chapter of my life.
Best wishes for 2019!
PS- This website platform is excellent. Congratulations to all involved.
After working with Tara for 1 year I can honestly say that Tara has really healed my emotional and mental sadness that has been troubling me for a long time. She helped me develop self confidence and self belief. She’s a really kind and thoughtful lady and I am really going to miss talking to her every week but now that she has healed me I think it’s time for her to move onto focusing on helping others who need her. Thank you so much Tara, You are the best!
Tara has helped me move on from a very dark place i was trapped in. She offered me advice and a variety of options which helped me sort out a very tough emotional crises that threatened my marriage relationship. Thank you Tara, I will always come back to you for more advice.
Compassionate, and understanding yet also practical. I have felt like I am able to be open with my problems.
I have been talking to Tara for a few weeks but I am very happy with her. She is very objective and professional.
I am able to understand my situation better.
Tara is personable, kind and empathetic. She is down to earth and relatable. She can come across as a bit cold due to professionalism at first, but she warms quickly and is easy to talk to.
Tara Russian has done an incredible job helping me with issues in anxiety, trauma, parenting and just being an excellent outlet. She made a huge difference from me!
As a therapist, Tara Russian is excellent. She uses multiple tools in order to access the patient's psychological state of mind. She offers a safe space for the patient to divulge innermost thoughts, some almost unconscious and long held. She lessens the tension by creating new perspectives that are viable, doable options.
I have gone to many therapists. She was able to offer me help during the first session that gave me hope; I was extremely distraught. I now respond differently to daily issues, as well as to the challenge of life-changing decisions.
In our sessions she met me where I was; if I needed psychiatric, intellectual language with much data and supportive examples, she provided it. If, on the other hand, I was emotional and almost inarticulate, she intervened with layman's language. She is empathetic naturally, but she also imparts a sense of caring. She helped me find my lost-self confidence. At times the change was not immediately evident; at times, the self-assurance manifests itself in unexpected ways and in new situations. I am extremely grateful for finding her.
I had a wonderful experience, which meant a lot for my first experience with counseling. She really seemed to care and offered much-appreciated guidance without being patronizing or judging anything said. After just a few days I definitely would recommend her to anyone looking for a safe place.
Tara has been great! I'm currently going through the unthinkable and she is patient and understanding. I would definitely refer her to a friend in need.
