About Me
I believe that counseling is a team effort with both of us having unique roles. My role is to be your coach and cheerleader but the actual work belongs to you. I will be right there in your corner cheering you on and assisting you if you stumble.
My approach to counseling:
My primary approach to therapy is called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, also known as ACT. This is a form of counseling is a scientifically supported and provides positive outcomes. ACT uses acceptance and mindfulness strategies mixed in different ways. This approach also addresses commitment and behavior-change strategies that have the ability to increase psychological flexibility. Because the therapeutic process is not a “one size fits all” I use a variety of techniques in therapy, trying to find what will work best for you. These techniques are likely to include dialogue, interpretation, cognitive reframing, awareness exercises, self-monitoring experiments, visualization, journal keeping, drawing, and reading books. Frequently I will provide you with homework assignments that are geared towards developing skills for you to use outside the therapy environment. These exercises assist in not only strengthening your brain but also your behavioral changes. I also am certified in integrative mental health and utilize nutrition and diet as a tool for improving mental health and wellness.
I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Central Florida. Additionally, I earned a Master of Science degree in counseling from Nova Southeastern University.
Experience:
I completed my internship with and began my career in outpatient substance abuse counseling. During that time I also worked in detox and inpatient facilities. The vast majority of my work was with client’s who had dual diagnoses; meaning not only substance abuse but other mental health concerns; particularly PTSD. I have worked with children on an outpatient and inpatient basis. Most recently I have been working with adults at a community level. This population spans diagnoses ranging from anxiety and stress disorder to chronic and persistent mental illnesses such as schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders. I have taken specialized training and certification classes in Trauma Focused Therapy and anxiety reduction skills.

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Terriee Smith. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Terriee is a wonderful therapist! I never feel I have to "hold back" anything and always feel free to ask for direction or support.
She’s wonderful
She is personalized, empathetic, smart, and truly cares about helping me.
Terriee is the best therapist and in many ways: listening, communication, feedback, support, knowledge , experience and kindness.
Terrie has helped me remember who I am in the year that I’ve been talking to her in weekly sessions. I’ve gone from someone dealing with suicidal thoughts and rage to someone who is more peaceful and able to identify triggers that put me in a bad mental space. I was very skeptical of therapy. It didn’t work for me before. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done, showing up for myself day after day. But I really do feel the difference and so does my family.
I have truly enjoyed my time with Terriee. She’s has helped me go through some anxious times. I’m a better person since working with her.
Terrie is like an unbiased educated mom you get good advice and feedback from. She’s good at this. She helps me.
Terriee gives you the tools, guides you on how to use them and encourages you along the way. She made me feel comfortable in the first 5 minutes of speaking and I’ve been able to be very open with her.
Terriee is a supportive counselor that gives strategic feedback to focus on your goals and what you want to accomplish. I’m happy to have found her!
She’s very good
Terriee is great! No nonsense right to thebpoint
Terriee is very caring and insightful.
Terriee has been fantastic, in the short time that we have been having sessions I feel very comfortable discussing my feelings and troubles with her. Our sessions are a 100% judgment-free zone, I feel heard, that my perspective is validated, and she is very gracious and kind when asking me about why/why I feel a certain way and guiding me towards the source and potential resolution of my feelings.
She’s simply, the best!
Incredible expertise, a wonderful clinician and any clients would be blessed to have her as a provider. Insight and keen understanding makes her a valuable asset to any company.
Truly enjoy my conversations with Terriee, I look forward to our weekly meetings.
I felt a great connection with my counselor since day one. I feel like I can talk freely about how I feel and I’m never judged. She has understood how I felt and why and she remembers clearly everything I tell her which I appreciate. She gives me the validation I haven’t received from many counselors, friends and even family in regard to my problems. I’m very happy and grateful I found this app and her!!
Talking to Terriee has been so helpful for me. She understands my issues, and is very kind in her delivery. She has helped me practice mindfulness, and encourages me.
Great listening. I can tell she cares
She’s very attentive and has excellent suggestions for me to continue to grow
Terriee is amazing, so blessed to have found her
I really enjoy talking with Terriee. She makes me feel heard in a way that I didn’t realize I needed. She is very kind and opening up to her felt effortless, even though that is a very rare occurrence for me. She keeps me in check and reminds me to schedule my next visit and checks in often.
