My name is Torgeir Aavik, and I originally grew up in Norway. I moved to the United States for college and I am a Licensed Professional Therapist in Texas. I worked for over three years with children and families who were involved with Child Protective Services. I focused on areas of substance addiction, domestic violence, marriage and relationship issues, various forms of abuse, parenting issues, and LGBTQ families. I also worked at a substance addictions center a community counseling center. I have experience working with a wide array of clients from different cultural backgrounds and ages.
My style of therapy is warm and personal. I work by getting to know you as a person since you are the expert on your own life. Together, we can jointly come up with goals and solutions that are going to work for you. I will treat you with sensitivity, respect, and warmth by getting to know you as a unique individual. I like to use solution-focused therapy, family systems theory, mindfulness, and cognitive behavioral therapy. By getting to know you, we can figure out which type of counseling is going to be most beneficial to you.
Seeking therapy is not an easy decision to make, and I want to commend you for wanting to create a better life for yourself. I would love to support you and be part of your journey towards the goal of a more fulfilling life.

Torgeir is fantastic at getting to the root of problems and he listens respectfully and is very resourced in directing conversations and continually asking what the goals of sessions are. He listens without judgement and is supportive.
