Theresa (Tracie) Barton-Barrett

About Me

Hi there! Are you ready to make healthy changes in your life, but you're not quite sure what that looks like and are looking for support and guidance? Are you wanting to heal from the loss of a loved one? Are you having questions about your career/current profession and need some guidance? As you scroll through everyone, I want to affirm the fact you are taking this first step. Finding the right fit with a counselor is an important decision. My given name is Theresa, but I've always been called Tracie.

***I offer afternoon video, phone, and chat sessions, Monday-Wednesdays to North Carolina residents only, as that is the state in which I'm licensed. Please reach out if you are a writer/artist, teacher, or fellow counselor/therapist, as I am familiar and have experience in all three worlds. However, if you are coming to counseling specifically to work on trauma, I encourage you to keep looking for a counselor that has a specialty in trauma.***

My experience includes helping people process grief, loss, anxiety, and moving through life's transitions and believe in being supportive, curious, compassionate, with a good sense of humor. As a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in the state of North Carolina, as well as a Nationally Certified Counselor, I use an eclectic approach of Cognitive-Behavioral therapy, Psychodynamic, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Narrative, and Humanistic (client-centered) theories. And, thirteen years as a former community college psychology and sociology teacher helps bring an even greater understanding to our sessions. I also facilitate a BetterHelp Groupinar and a BetterHelp Support Group on Healing Your Heart from Pet Loss.

One of my unique specialties is in pet loss grief and as an author, I wrote my first novel, BURIED DEEP IN OUR HEARTS, to help people with their healing process. I enjoy traveling with my husband, being outside or near animals whenever possible, good music and movies/shows, and am owned by one cat named Oliver Monkey.

Please reach out if you have any questions or would like to connect. Counseling can be difficult at times, but it is some of the most important and rewarding work you'll ever do. It takes courage to move beyond your comfort zone.

Take good care of yourself, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Tracie is excellent! I met with Tracie for the first time today and she helped me process and make a lot of progress toward clarifying what I want my next life chapter to look like. Tracie did such a great job helping me process and explore. She is an excellent listener and I look forward to talking to her again in the future!
