About me

Hello! My name is Valerie Horton. I am a licensed professional clinical counselor and licensed independent chemical dependency counselor licensed in the state of Ohio with 15 years of experience. I have worked in a variety of settings including community mental health, private practice, addiction treatment facilities as well as managed care. I have worked with clients with a wide variety of diagnosis such as major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, chemical dependency as well as life stressors, grief, infertility, and post partum depression. I also have personal experience with autism spectrum disorder and parenting.

My therapeutic style is person centered, solution focused. I find motivational interviewing to be an excellent strategy when clients feel stuck, and are looking for next steps. I believe in treating everyone with respect and kindness. I believe its most important to be kind to yourself throughout the therapeutic process and I encourage active reflection. I believe the most important technique in therapy is building a solid rapport with the client, to fully listen and hear what they are looking for, and act as a guide throughout the process. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.

Finally, I want to congratulate you for reaching out and looking for help. I know it is not easy. By working together I believe we will be able to find the answers you are looking for. I look forward to meeting you and walking with you on your path.

Valerie Horton helped me when I was coming out and when I was really discovering who I was and what I was doing to people around me. She helped me to become a better person and realize mistakes and flaws are ok but it’s how we learn and grow. She helped me from the first session to the last. Valerie truly helped me believe in myself and think about what is best for myself.
