About me

Hi, my name is Dr. Miles, I'm a clinical psychologist in private practice and I'm located in Minnesota. My training is in clinical health psychology and along with helping clients with various mental health needs, in my private practice I have a specific interest in helping individuals with medical and health-related conditions, and on BetterHelp I provide a wider range of services to assist clients with life stress, changes, career stress, compassion fatigue, burnout, relationship and communication issues, self-esteem, self-compassion, and general counseling.

My therapy style is a direct reflection of who I am as a person. I strongly believe that therapy needs to be tailored to each individual that visits with me. I do not feel that any one approach will solve every problem or concern, but I do use several evidence-based techniques to help each of my clients. I practice from cognitive-behavioral (CBT) framework when appropriate, but also borrow approaches from humanistic and other person-centered therapies.

I pride myself in being an authentic and straight-forward person. At times my style is very transparent, which I feel can help you as a client. I ultimately see my role as a therapist is to empower you to become your own therapist, your own advocate, and your own champion - and my aim is to help you move towards solutions and problem-solving that will assist you far beyond our time in therapy.

The world of app-based counseling on BetterHelp lends itself to many more convenient possibilities that are not available in traditional counseling, and while I feel both worlds have their merits, this platform allows both the client and the provider greater flexibility. Our therapy can be very brief and solution-focused, while also allow greater time and space to address our very innermost workings, our thoughts, our behaviors, our relational styles, and our coping styles. We can approach this in a way that is comfortable for you, and in a collaborative way work to identify your goals and desires within therapy.

I recognize that for many seeking help on this platform, it is likely your first time seeking help through counseling. Many may feel that traditional therapy is not for them - walking into a clinic and meeting with a therapist face-to-face feels too uncomfortable, or the time-demands of therapy do not align with your current needs. I get it, and I have been there.
