I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Distance Credentialed Counselor who graduated from the University of Indianapolis with degrees in Psychology and Social Work in 2002. I went on to complete my master's degree in Social Work from Indiana University in 2003. I have over 15 years of experience working with individuals, couples, families, and children. In addition to my work in a private practice environment, I am also actively involved in continuing education and higher education. As an adjunct faculty member and internship supervisor, I am able to train and assist Master of Social Work and Master of Counseling students at Indiana University, Butler University, and the University of Indianapolis. This allows me to remain well-versed in research surrounding counseling theory. I also have extensive social work research experience, and I have enjoyed the opportunity to publish and present this research in textbooks, journals, and at national conferences.
My personal counseling style and approach is very conversational, empathic, non-judgmental, compassionate and individualized. I endeavor to establish a quick but strong rapport with you in order for trust and progress to be made. I utilize a variety of theoretical perspectives depending upon your needs and counseling expectations. I most often rely upon Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solutions-Based Therapy, and Mindfulness to assist my clients in making progress toward their goal(s). With a good rapport and regular interaction, I strongly believe that you can make progress in the counseling process. I maintain "office hours" for my BetterHelp clients. I pride myself on responding to email messages within 24 hours to maintain consistency and availability to my clients.
We all need help and support at different times in our lives, and it takes courage to begin this process. I would be honored to walk through this journey with you.
I look forward to working with you soon!

I have seen upwards of 10 counselors within my journey to mental wellness, but I have never been as comfortable with a therapist like I am with Wendy. From day one, her style and approach has been a perfect fit for me. She checks in daily and responds with paragraphs of personable information. I don't know how she manages different clients, yet still manages to care about each individual (like myself) - but she truly does! She listens to every word of my rambling and tangents, without judgment or a sense of annoyance. She responds to me, specifically, without overgeneralizing and grouping me into a category of any sort. I am so glad that I was matched with Wendy! If you are on the verge of quitting online therapy, I hope you find this review and request Wendy Galyen to be your support person! You will not regret it.
