About me

Welcome to BetterHelp. My name is Whitney Read, and I am a New York State Licensed Clinical Social Worker and have worked across the state in a helping profession for over 9 years. I have been working as a licensed clinical social worker helping individuals, families, couples and children cope with the adjustment to many of life's changes -- whether small or large, for over 7 years.

I have worked with clients struggling with grief and loss, anticipatory grief, anxiety, depression, trauma, bipolar disorder and self-esteem challenges, as well as those who need assistance with problem solving through a challenging situation whether at home, at work or with a friend.

I believe in the true collaboration between therapist and client in order to provide the best possible help. Your journey is unique to you and your experiences. Our work together will also be unique. I believe in working with a client to best develop goals and outcomes that truly benefit you as a person. My clients have said that my approach is present, compassionate, understanding and empowering, while utilizing humor and mindfulness to create balance. My frequently used treatment modalities include CBT, DBT, cognitive processing therapy, strengths based and mindfulness based interventions, short-term solution focused therapy, person-centered therapy, motivational interviewing, life review and narrative therapy. My goal is to tailor our interactions to best help you -- there is not a one size fits all model.

It takes a strong person to take the first step in reaching out when life gets hard. Change is hard and scary, and life can be busy. Making time for yourself is important and I am here to help, using Betterhelp as a platform for therapy that may be outside of the "normal business hours."

I look forward to collaborating with you!

Very helpful and calm. It's easier to speak to a counselor that is calm and open to what you have to say.

Whitney is very empathetic and a great listener. She has an art of asking the right questions and collecting important pieces of information and redirects you to the real issue and counsels accordingly. What I love the best about her is her very quick responses and her wisdom. She has made such a difference in my life in just 3 weeks. I highly recommend her to anyone seeking help.
