Yvette Spears, LMFT
About me
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in North Carolina, with over 9 years of experience working with a diverse group of clients. My primary experience is working with Combat Veterans, Survivors of Military Sexual Trauma, and their families coping with stressors after deployment or discharge from services. This can include challenges of PTSD, Depression, Anxiety, substance use, and relationship issues . I have helped families gain healthy effective communication to improve co-parenting and blended family dynamics. Working with couples to improve dialogue and set reasonable expectations for a successful relationship through the use of Gottman method and Emotionally Focused Therapy.
My counseling style is collaborative with a focus on being compassionately accountable with my clients, meaning I will be curious, respectful, and challenging with others to assist them in their recovery or treatment needs while assuring that all tools needed to cope are available. I have an eclectic approach that combines influences from Attachment styles in Family of Origin, Cognitive Behavioral, and Experiential Therapy models like Internal Family Systems to explore the primary needs of clients.
I specialize in treatment for people coping with life transitions and issues of readjustment. Life can be challenging and often we seek someone to work with collaboratively to guide through difficult or new experiences to alleviate the stress of the unknown while being somewhat autonomous to know that we still achieved this through our own efforts. My goal is always to insure that my clients feel empowered in the choices they make in achieving goals for their mental health.
