About Me

Amanda D. Polk, MSW, LISW-CP is a licensed independent clinician with more than 5 years in the mental health field. Mrs. Polk has a master’s degree in Social Work from Walden University and a bachelor’s degree in Criminology from the University of South Carolina. Mrs. Polk has dedicated her life to the service of others by serving for 25 years in the Army and the South Carolina Army National Guard and is a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom – Afghanistan. In addition, she has served her community as a Guardian Ad Litem for abused and neglected children, and is currently a licensed Therapeutic Foster Parent. She currently works at her Alumni High School as their Senior Army Instructor in the JROTC program. Mrs. Polk is a therapist in the field of mental health and has previously provided in-home therapy services for the South Carolina Youth Advocate Program. Mrs. Polk's specialty is in treating borderline personality disorder, depression, anxiety, trauma, anger, and parenting skills. Mrs. Polk’s treatment approach is set on the foundation of having a therapeutic relationship, to include using theories such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), solution focused, mindfulness, and being patient centered.

Amanda is fantastic. I've found it quite difficult to talk to someone about my experiences but I've felt safe and understood throughout our sessions. Amanda has a kind confidence that is very reassuring, and will explain processes and techniques in an accessible, motivating and productive way - I find this incredibly encouraging and empowering.

Amanda is so easy to trust and talk to. Never having done therapy before, I was a bit in the fence about it. Amanda made sure to answer any questions I had and was very reassuring from the beginning. Her methods, I feel, have been every beneficial to me and my healing progress. Would highly recommend her!

I have been doing therapy with Amanda for a while now, and she is very supportive, validating and kind. I would say as well that she is a rare person who does her job wholeheartedly and not as another job. She is responsible, humane, dedicated and also makes you feel very comfortable about yourself which is something that is so important to me being a very socialy anxious person.
Overall she is a wonderful therapist as well as person and I would recommend her to anyone without hesitation.

I truly like how proactive her therapy is. She responds to me with words and kindness, but then offers worksheets or videos to back up what was said so that I have help and support between sessions. I find that really helpful.

Amanda Polk is a counselor who seems to really listen to and understand her patients. I am grateful that she also provided some Christian aspects to our session. She also helped “problem solve” by providing resources to certain areas we discussed in session.

She was a very good counselor and was honest with her very respected and thoroughly valued opinion in what we spoke about. She did just repeat what I said over and over, or make me feel like she was just nodding her head in a agreement, she was on the people’s level with advice and listening and general assistance in an honest and heart felt true, caring manner. Firm, not pushy, and even temperament not emotional yet not robots, often robotic or emotional response could possibly cause patient or client to be to emotionally invested with counselors she was very professional firm, thorough, honest, level headed, while truly listened and did not drag anything out for the money.

Amanda has been working with me through most of this year and she has been so helpful to keep my perspective healthy and on my goals. She is encouraging, kind, thoughtful, educated, empathetic, and gives lots of tools to help me manage my various needs as they come up. She helps me think deep and healthfully so I can heal deep and well. I value her input in my life so much and am so very thankful for her.
