About me

Hello! I am Amber Rowe Mikus, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist. I received both of my degrees from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. I have over 11 years of clinical experience, however I have worked in the mental health/substance abuse field for 16 years. I graduated with my Bachelor of Psychology with a Minor in Child Development and Family Relationships in 2005. I worked in the field for three years in the school setting with behaviorally challenged children and adolescents, as well as in a day treatment setting for children and teens that were expelled from the public school setting and/or had behaviors too extensive for a regular classroom setting. I went on to complete my graduate degree at East Carolina University. I graduated in 2010 with my Master's in Social Work. I have spent much of my clinical years working with children in their home, doing intensive therapy with them, as well as their parents and/or caregivers. I also spent much of my time working with dually diagnosed adults, a day treatment facility with behaviorally challenged children and teens as a lead therapist, and most recently in a substance abuse treatment program. Most recently, I have been in a medication assistant treatment facility working with adults in recovery or striving toward recovery from opiates and other substances.

I have an eclectic approach to therapy. Much of my technique is person centered, I use motivational interviewing, as well as cognitive behavioral therapy. I find solution focused therapy to be very helpful, and reality therapy appropriate a lot of times.

My passion is people. People of all walks of life, with different backgrounds and different journeys. I strive to work with my clients to help them uncover their best self. The most important part is to remember that this is your therapy, you are the captain, you hold the compass, and the journey is up to you. Remember, this is your therapy- we go where you want to go in therapy. I tend to be laid back, and easy going. I am open to phone sessions, video sessions and chat sessions, it is up to you. If you message me- I always respond as soon as I can. Again, this is your service, so if something hits you in the middle of the night, message me!

I am proud of you for taking this difficult step, and I look forward to hearing from you!

Amber does an excellent job at listening, and that is evidenced by the quality of her questions. The questions at the beginning of the session help her get to know you, and the questions at the end help you understand the first steps towards self improvement.

Amber is understanding and easy to talk to without an ounce of judgment about anything that might come up. She provides insights I hadn't thought of. Her manner is gentle, kind, and even humorous when I get to taking myself just a little too seriously. Can't recommend her enough!
