I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and I have an MS in art therapy/psychology. I have been a registered art therapist since 1980 with the American Art Therapy Association and I have a wide range of experience and feel comfortable working with clients of all ages. I have worked with children in special education, elderly adults, and presently I provide art therapy groups as well as individual counseling to patients who suffer from addictions and/or severe and persistent mental illness.
In addition to working with psychiatric patients as an art therapist and licensed professional counselor, I have provided education and support to family members as a Family to Family teacher for the National Alliance of Mental Illness. As an employee of University Health/Truman Medical Center in KC, MO I have had a great deal of experience working with some of the most difficult cases and also have personal experience with family members who suffer from mental illness. Having both professional and personal experience has made me very aware of how difficult it is to navigate mental health services for yourself or for a loved one when trying to access help for mental illness.
As for my therapeutic approaches, I consider myself to be open minded, flexible, and willing to provide whatever would be best suited for each client I work with. I have a humanistic approach and can provide Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Existential Therapy, Client Centered Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. I am also willing to utilize and incorporate art therapy techniques if the client would benefit from them. The bottom line is that I will meet the client where they are and will provide therapeutic approaches which best suits each client’s needs.

While I've only been working with Angela for a month, it feels like much longer. Angela is extremely easy to talk to and I really feel like she understands my struggles.
She's very open minded, an amazing listener and offers insightful, innovative ideas to help me get my thoughts out on paper or on a canvas.
I would highly recommend Angela to anyone.
Angela Kieler helped me to work on my overthinking, catastrophizing, all of nothing thinking and other cognitive distortions. She listend empathetically about my ups and downs of being self employed, having a newborn and the everyday challenges of living in a committed long term relationship. She shared helpful insights with me, helped me to reframe certain situations and when needed and appropriate shared helpful worksheets and exercises with me. She was always on time and replied to messages in between our in person conversations promptly. I felt well taken care of and can highly recommended working with her.
Angela really helped ease my anxiety and were very understanding and kind with me during my sessions with her!
Angela is outstanding! Incredibly consistent, thoughtful support with deep benefits. She brings so much more then I had hoped for supporting and working with me in a variety of ways.
I have appreciated and valued every session with Angela thus far. I have been seeing her for a couple of months now. She has a patience and caring approach. Often times, my life feels like a hurricane of swirling emotions and immense challenges around me. Just trying constantly to find my way out of the storm to the bright sunshine on the other side. Angela helps me to have a moment of pause and peace; to slow everything down. She helps me to see and realize that positive sunshine on the other side. She guides me to a reassuring belief that not only can I get there, but that I will find my happiest self there as well. Thank you for everything so far Angela!
Very kind, supporting, and understanding. Miss Angela gives all the time and effort to make anyone feel better

Angela helped me look at a difficult situation that was causing me a lot of anxiety in an entirely new light! She is very easy to talk to and made my first ever therapy experience very positive.

I have had 2 sessions with Angela Kieler untill now. I've found her to be a good listener, a nice person to talk to. Great empaty and tolerance.
In the short time I have been working with Angela she has made a positive impact on my life. She has recommended excellent sources of knowledge for me to pursue outside therapy and has set meaningful tasks between sessions. She is a wonderful listener, communicates with empathy and has helpful examples to share each week. It’s a highlight of my week.
