About Me

Hi. My name is Anita Aasen. I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 30 years experience. I work with individual, families and couples, I have learned that every journey is unique. Every journey has its trials. We all experience unexpected changes, difficulties and loss; whether it be a death, a marriage , a job or some other. We all experience anxiety in some degree. The pandemic has hit all of us hard. Therapy is a unique way to assist when you are ready to write the next chapter of your life's narrative. Specialties include grief work, stress reduction, self esteem, depression, anxiety and PTSD.

I recently has obtained a certificate as. a Certified Grief Informed Professional. and have received a certificate as a Certified Advanced Grief Counseling Specialist . I have been trained in cognitive behavioral therapy and in mindfulness. I have worked as a substance abuse counselor and have an extensive knowledge of the 12 steps and "smart recovery" other recovery based programs..
I approach therapy uniquely as a chance to find the lessons in difficulties and the hidden strengths to be discovered and acknowledged. I believe there is therapeutic value in humor, finding gratitude in the small things, and enriching your spirituality. I believe in the resilience of the human spirit.

Anita has been tremendously helpful in allowing me a safe place to process my anxiety, stresses, and negative thinking. She listens with compassion uses humor to help me see another perspective. I appreciate the worksheets and strategies she's introduced, and know that I just need to put in the work to make change happen. She's great to work work, I highly recommend Anita!

I have worked with Ms. Aasen for a bit over two months. Ms. Aasen was exactly the sort of therapist I needed. I am self motivated and needed someone to guide me through the different things I was dealing with. I also needed someone to provide me with an objective view of the world and an objective, realistic and helpful interpretation of the things that had transpired. Ms. Aasen was sympathetic and listened to me, never rushing me, nor contradicting me. However, she gently provided alternate interpretations of what may have happened, and that helped me to understand the situation from a more helpful perspective. On the other hand, when I suspected something from outside, she provided me with the correct and helpful information to safely navigate challenging situations. I would like to offer a few guidelines to anyone considering therapy. Please be willing to do the work. Please be active in your own healing journey. Finally, please be patient during the formation of a beneficial, therapeutic relationship with the therapist. It often takes a few sessions to get comfortable with someone, so please be patient during this time, and please be open in discussing your issues with the therapist, and please do any work that has been assigned. It would be very hard to heal without some self reflection and active participation. Ms. Aasen was so helpful for me in this because she kept up with me during the sessions, provided appropriate and helpful worksheets, articles and other reading materials for me to study on my own later. She encouraged me choosing what I needed to work on for that week. She was gentle, helpful, encouraging, provided accurate information and worksheets, and was responsive to my messages. This was immensely helpful for me. I am a person of faith, and Ms. Aasen was very helpful in this regards as well. Ms. Aasen was a great help in my healing journey, and I’m so glad that we got to work together!

I’m very happy to have matched with Anita over BetterHelp. Anita is kind, caring and an amazing listener, I can’t tell you how much I enjoy our time together. She’s never aggressive and always comes from a place of understanding and caring. Anita has been the most incredible therapist & has honestly helped me to change my life. I came to her very anxious, surrounded by fear based thinking and dealing with unresolved trauma. I’ve only had two sessions with Anita so far, however from the first session I felt reassured and safe instantly. Anita is very understanding and on the ball, it’s still early days but just having the two sessions as well as the messaging is really helpful and comforting to know you’re not alone! I had 2 months sessions with Anita and I feel like I know how to process on my own now. I came in looking for someone to process life with and a mental coach who would help me see unhealthy mind patterns I was blind to and I got what I wanted with Anita as my coach who had much wisdom. She is genuine and real with you easy going but sincere and it felt safe to talk to her and I felt understood by her. Her questions were gentle yet thought provoking and I am so glad I had done my first better help with her.

Anita is an amazing, attentive, and compassionate therapist. I feel so supported and she takes the time to read my journal entries and provide feedback. She listens well and is kind, yet also helps me simplify the issues I'm dealing with to be truthful about my feelings and the situation. I feel I am making great progress with her and just feel so supported and lucky to have her on my team.
