Hello! If you are reading this then it means you are somewhere along the way to seeking therapy - welcome, it's great you are here! Making the decision to talk through personal challenges and struggles with someone takes courage and while it can be a hard step to take, it opens the door to positive and profound change.
If you are looking to heal, let's talk. If you are struggling with life transitions or challenges that seem insurmountable, let's talk. If you are wanting to gain a fresh perspective or make some difficult changes, let's talk.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Missouri and have been providing mental health support there and overseas since 2009. I have worked in a variety of settings including outreach centers for survivors of violence, a university counseling center and private practice, and have had the opportunity to work with people of all ages and various nationalities.
I practice using a strengths-based approach, focusing on a person's resilience and building on the strengths they possess (we all have strengths, sometimes we are just so overwhelmed by life we are not able to see them clearly). Over the course of therapy I incorporate elements of cognitive behavioral, trauma-focused, solution focused and person-centered therapy. Therapy is not one size fits all and thus the therapeutic process is tailored to meet individual needs.
It is truly a privilege to be present with someone on their path of self-discovery and change and I look forward to working with you.

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Anna (Kate) Smart. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
I've worked with several therapists, and Kate is by far the best experience I've had. She always makes me feel listened to, and her guidance has helped me find clarity on topics that have been causing me a great deal of confusion and anxiety.
I have referred so many friends to BetterHelp these last few months, and especially Anna (Kate). She literally gave me hope when I didn’t think there was any left in the world for me.
It has been a pleasure working with Kate. She is always positive and encouraging.
Kate has a very relaxed and warm approach which put me at ease and made me feel capable right from the off. She listens and always sees right to the heart of the issue, offering profound insights and practical advice. She has subtly helped change my thinking and outlook for the better and helped me reach a state of mind I didn’t think was possible in the timeframe. Very grateful!
Kate is an exceptional and professional therapist, her insights and our conversations and sessions are always extremly profound and invaluable. Thank you.
She’s amazing and understanding, she will help you understand yourself ❤️
I promise you, she has gotten me through hell and I wouldnt have wanted anyone else .
Kate is a very positive and understanding person. She listens attentively and understands what are my main concerns and how to work on them. I feel very safe talking to here and don’t doubt that she has my best interest in mind. She is available when I need an advice and tracks my progress.
She is very helpful, helped my self esteem a ton and I stopped feeling bad about people's comments mainly through her approach. Would recommend, very friendly and always on time, also proposes me practical ways to cope with things that work in my case.
An absolute star of a human. She is kindhearted and very smart and her enthusiasm for me to follow my passions is so uplifting and gives me the motivation to chase my dreams. Her words are so insightful and she truly understands what I say even when I'm babbling.
Very passionate and understanding. I feel I can open up to Kate, even things I’ve never spoke about before
I've been working with Kate for over 3 months now, and she's great!
I'm autistic, and suffer from a myriad of anxiety driven, depression and OCD-ish symptoms. She has been super understanding from day 1, I'm super happy to have shared so much with her and received nothing but support, understanding, and encouragement. I can tell she has buckets of experience dealing with various people, and I've felt safe and comfortable talking to her.
Of course I recommend her! :)
My correspondence with Kate so far has been extremely positive and I look forward to seeing how I will progress with her help. She is extremely helpful, easy to talk to and understanding.
She is very good and listens and understands your issues very well and offers good remedy
I've enjoyed my counseling sessions with Kate up to this point and have found them greatly beneficial. She's taken a kind and methodical approach towards how I've been feeling. She's also helped me determine important questions to ask myself moving forward, and above all - has made me feel heard.
