Hi! My name is Anthony Penn. I’m an LPC licensed in the state Virginia. I have a Master’s in Mental Health Rehabilitation Counseling from Virginia Commonwealth University. I have over 10 years of counseling experience and 20 years of experience working with individuals struggling to manage psychological and/or emotional difficulties, including those diagnosed with severe mental illness.
I’ve worked with a good variety of age groups and populations over the years in my work. I’ve worked in a variety of settings (i.e., private practice, acute inpatient psychiatric facilities, outpatient therapy programs such as partial hospitalization programs, group homes, forensic facilities, and community mental health programs). I’m pleased to say I’ve had the opportunity to assist individuals with a large range of issues and I have yet to meet a challenge that was unwelcome. One of my greatest honors has been to treat active duty, veterans, and retired service members who have served in combat and have faced significant challenges re-integrating into society once returning home.
My counseling approach can be heavy in cognitive behavioral approaches but I love to incorporate mindfulness, solution-focused therapy, and positive psychology into my work. If any of this sounds relevant to you please do not hesitate to contact me.

Anthony is kind, relatable, and insightful in his advice. He helped me through a difficult time personally and professionally, and gave me tips on what I can do on my own to work through issues. He had lots of availability to meet, especially outside of regular business hours (so important)!! I can't recommend Anthony enough!

This is my first time using better help and I was a little hesitant. However that all went away with not only how easy the app is to use but how much progress I have made with my therapist Anthony Penn. He listens to my concerns and assigns me homework and reaches out to me to make sure that I am doing ok. I feel heard and supported. I would strongly recommend him.
