About me

Hi!
My name is Barbara Ramsey and I am a licensed therapist ( License number 44SC01482000). Welcome to the on-line counseling room, which will be our private, secure place to communicate. You can enter this room from any internet connected device wherever you are.

Thanks for taking the time to read my profile. I'm a nurse and clinical social worker with a masters degree from Rutgers University. I have worked in the hospital and home care but most of my professional career has been as a psychotherapist.

When someone starts counseling with me, I try to get to know them and, at the same time, help them cope with their immediate problems. I'm a good listener and easy to talk to. My years of experience have given me perspective. I try to notice patterns and sensitivities and reflect these back to my clients. Considering a member's values, hopes and dreams guide us to shape goals and support is given along the way. By seeing how things can get better, stress is reduced and clearer thinking results.
I hope that you are interested in working with me. Let's start get started so you can feel better.

To start, please tell me what brought you here. Just a few short sentences that describe the challenges you are facing and what you would like to talk about. It will help me know what you are going through and we'll schedule a live sessions to go on from there.
I am looking forward to working with you.

Barbara is an amazing listener. She really takes the time to understand what I’m looking to get out of therapy. There is no doubt she has improved my quality of life and headspace dramatically. I’m very grateful!

Barbara is adept at playing a fine line between listening and talking. She listens well and when she speaks it’s because it’s gold.

Barbara has helped guide me through so many stages of my life in the past four years. She is empathetic and kind. She is responsible and timely. Most of all, I know that she truly truly cares about me and my well-being. I’m actually tearing while I’m writing this. She has just been such a great gift.

Barbara is very perceptive as well as patient with me as I have been mistreated throughout my life by several relatives and a significant other especially when I was younger when I should have been living my best life, my life was in turmoil. It wasn't because I was a terrible person I just grew up with very little guidance or given very little good advice to navigate life, like so many of us. My dad was a alcoholic my entire life and my mom enabled him. My abuse was emotional abuse from my parents. and some physical threats from my father. My parents were very possessive. Life can be complicated because I still have some great memories of my parents and even my younger sibling when we would travel as a family and a short time in the 80s and early 90s working together and vacation. Also when I was very young my childhood was pretty nice. So I'm grateful it wasn't all negative. As my parents aged and got sicker they ignored me. Also when I got pregnant my dad ignored me. My mom helped me with my child for the first two weeks of me getting sick after childbirth. As I said, very complex emotions and that Barbara takes in stride. She offers me new insight on old issues, Which clarifies some of my muddled thoughts. She recognizes that although my past was marred with abuse and deceit from the humans I should have been able to trust. That I'm a very strong woman and I use my setbacks to propel me forward and I'm slowly healing from past wounds and trauma responses that a few of my relatives and my significant other caused in the past due to their ignorance at the time.
