"The difference between stumbling blocks and stepping stones is how you use them." This quote reflects my counseling philosophy of identifying the issues that are causing you distress and I can help realign your thinking in a way that feels supported, manageable and in control.
My name is Diahnn Austenfeld and I am a licensed professional counselor that holds licensure in both Texas and Michigan. I have previously worked in private practice and community mental health in Michigan. I was also a trained Mental Health First Aid Instructor and an active member of the Gull Lake Depression Advisory Council. I have a lot of work energy, emotional sensitivity and a strong passion for mental health wellness and advocacy.
I predominately work from the evidence based Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach which is practical and collaborative, or Mindful Based Cognitive Behavioral (MCBT) a modified version of CBT that includes breathing and relaxation techniques. I also work from a Person-Centered, Positive Psychology approach, or a Behavioral approach. I work with a wide range of concerns that include anxiety, depression, relational aggression, developmental disorders and parenting issues.
My counseling style is gentle, genuine and warm and I will treat you with absolute sensitivity and respect. I believe that humor can be helpful, and growth is inevitable. You have taken the difficult first step , and I will be here to support you on this journey!
