Dr. Charity Rolfes, LCP
About me
Hi, My name is Charity B. Rolfes and I am a Virginia licensed Clinical Psychologist with 25 years of experience. The therapeutic relationship is the foundation of any type of psychotherapy. It begins with mutual respect and the therapist’s ability to create a supportive, compassionate, non-judgmental atmosphere where a patient feels safe to explore and address life’s challenges.
A great many of us are taught that some aspects of ourselves are wrong, bad, or not good enough. Too many experience traumatic or abusive situations that can shake our confidence in ourselves, our safety, and other people, and all of us will experience losses that cause us sadness and pain. Psychology provides many paths to work with the emotions and consequences resulting from these experiences in a way that leads to growth and a more meaningful and fulfilling life, and healthy connections with others. I have training in and experience with a broad range of psychotherapies, including psychodynamic, Dialectical Behavior, mindfulness based, somatic, and cognitive behavioral therapies. I enjoy and have experience working with clients from many backgrounds, races, ethnicities, LGBTQIA+ identities, branches of military service, ability and neurodiversity statuses, immigration statuses, and religions and spiritual traditions.
I look forward to the opportunity to meet with you, explore your goals, and work toward the life that you envision for yourself.

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Dr. Charity Rolfes. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Before BetterHelp, I had multiple attempts to pursue therapy with other providers (all who didn't quite provide what I was searching for). Dr. Rolfes is personable and has been knowledgable to help guide me in a variety of different personal struggles. Her schedule has been accommodating to my somewhat inflexible workdays. Glad we got matched & already have our next session booked!

She is very kind, and is an amazing listener. I felt heard, and I felt calmer when talking to her. I felt like she really understood me, and her great sense of humor made it easy to both talk to and work with her, while taking off the edge of anxiety/stress at the same time.

Charity is an exceptional therapist. She's both highly intelligent and emotionally attuned—she grasps what I'm saying immediately, even when I'm speaking in abstractions or struggling to articulate something clearly.
It's a rare and profound experience to feel that the person on the other side of the phone truly understands you at a deep level, despite not having lived your specific experiences. Somehow, Charity makes me feel like she has—which leaves me feeling seen, heard, and less alone.
She's also profoundly warm and kind, holding space for me through my most difficult moments with steadiness and true compassion. That combination—intellectual depth and genuine warmth—is what makes her irreplaceable.
I can say with confidence: Charity is better than thirty therapists combined.
