Charles McBride

(MA, NCC, LPC)

About Me

I am a professional counselor, licensed in both Wyoming and Oregon, with over 10 years of experience. I have worked as both a residential substance abuse treatment counselor and as a outpatient mental health counselor with an employee and family assistance program. I have worked with clients with a broad range of issues including substance abuse, depression, anxiety, relationship concerns and sexuality. I have also worked with first responders who have experienced trauma.

My counseling style is warm and supportive, with a little bit of humor thrown into the mix. All clients will be treated with respect and compassion, regardless of where they are on their life's journey. I strongly believe that the client is the only expert of his/her/their life and it is my job to help each one reach their full potential. We enter counseling to change something in our lives; whatever we are currently doing isn't working. But we must change how we think in order for our new behaviors to have lasting change.

To this end, my approach combines cognitive-behavioral, rational-emotive, dialectical-behavioral and client-centered counseling. Just as each client is unique, each treatment plan must be as well. We will work together to create a plan that meets your specific needs. I look forward to our first session!

Charles has a way of making the world feel a little lighter after each session. I appreciate that he allows you to be a person first, and helps you remember to be a person first instead of all the things you think that you should or need to be.

I’ve never had counseling before so this is my first experience and it’s just really nice to talk to Charles, someone who is a good listener and doesn’t judge you for how you’re feeling. I feel like his jokes brighten up my mood and he gives me the advice that I need to hear, not what I want to hear. He understands that progress is within my own actions and is patient if I don’t meet my goals.

My experience with Charles McBride can only be described as absolutely positive and nurturing. I met with different therapists over the years, but Charles is the one who has made an impression. He is a true professional who doesn’t simply listen but also makes you feel heard. He is very attentive to my needs while maintaining healthy boundaries and his observations and recommendations are easy to understand. He handles appointment times wonderfully. I always feel safe talking to him and I never regretted one single therapy session with him. I think he recognizes that his clients are the ones who need do the work to solve their own issues and his approach is to provide the tools and the confidence to start making those changes.
I would definitely recommend Charles McBride to anyone who wanted to start their therapy journey with a trustworthy, amicable and solid professional.

Charles has the ability to see through my biases and slow down my thinking process so that I can focus on what's important and what's immediate. He has a warm personality and has vast experience dealing with the situation I find myself in. He gives me great insights on other people's perspective and shows genuine concern for my well-being. I was glad I changed counselor and picked him.
