About me

I have been working in the mental health field since the early 2000s. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a PhD in Counselor Education. I've worked with various clients struggling with a multitude of issues including personal, marital and family relationship issues, and various other problems leading to anger, depression, and anxiety. I place a huge emphasis on self-care and habit development. It is difficult to feel well emotionally when you don't feel well physically so I also place emphasis on health and overall well-being. I take a philosophical approach to the work I do with my clients and I encourage my clients to begin developing habits and routines in their behaviors and in their thought patterns that will have beneficial long term effects on their lives and their relationships.

Dr. Barrera has helped me tremendously. He’s validated my decisions when I doubted them. He’s encouraged me to look at myself objectively for improvement. He provides helpful and encouraging messages and he’s always on time for our appointments. I’m grateful that I started therapy and that Dr. Barrera was matched with me.
