I provide therapy on this website to residents of Tennessee, Mississippi and Florida. I have been counseling for the past 17 years.
It takes courage to seek a more fulfilling and happier life and to take those first steps towards change. I have found that the courage you are now using to seek help can lead to great rewards and I would be honored to work with you. I provide help for a wide range of concerns such as depression, anxiety, grief and loss, sobriety, and recovery from narcissistic abuse.
My counseling style is interactive, informal, and solutions oriented. My personality is calm and straightforward. I believe in treating one another with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. My approach combines principles of cognitive behavior therapy and humanistic counseling. In plain English, that means I believe you have the answers within you and we can work together to uncover them and to find solutions. I work with you to understand how your challenges developed, but I also help you learn new problem solving skills that you can apply to future challenges. We may look into the past sometimes in order to help you gain insight into your challenges and we will try on some new perspectives and new behaviors in an effort to bring about positive changes in your life.
I will do everything I can to help you better understand your difficulties and get past them. Together, we will determine the goals you want to achieve and from there we will collaborate on how to tackle each of them. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you!

Debra is an empathetic listener and strives to help me find my own answers. She has deep knowledge of counseling practices and techniques.
This has been a wonderful experience. Debra always asks the right questions to make you think and assess things. I have learned so much about myself since starting my sessions with her!
I’ve had an amazing couple of sessions with Debra! We instantly hit it off on a few comment career paths, which gave her the ability to not only be relatable but extremely compassionate. Looking forward to my continuous sessions and personal growth. Thanks Debra!
Debra is wonderful! She gives great advice but more more than anything she is honest and transparent.... which is hard to find. Debra is also genuine and thoughtful. If you have the opportunity to have her as your counselor you will not regret it. She is one of the best!
Debra is so great. She listens and offers advice and different perspectives. She talks to me not at me.
I'm comfortable with her demeanor she has a sense of humor that must be in my life, in order to cope, with life. I'm fortunate that she is well educated in the practice of therapy, she seems to pick up on flags that I wave before I do.....I like Debra, thank you.
Debra has been amazing with helping learn to navigate and deal with a newly diagnosed anxiety disorder. With her guidance and meds from my pcp I feel like I’m almost back to my old self.
Debra is a kind natured person. Great listener and is very solutions oriented. I feel very supported by Debra and working with her has helped me tremendously
Although I have only had 2 sessions with Debra at this time, I have been pleased with the times. She is very patient, and intuitive. I appreciate being able to open up and get an honest second viewpoint from her.
She has been extremely polite and understanding.
I would like to say that so far Debra Shelton has helped me tremendously and we have really just gotten started. I'm new to therapy and have been stand offish in the past but she makes me feel comfortable and able to open up. I would recommend her for sure!
Debra has been a great listener, never is judgemental, and is good about helping me see things more realistically. I have a lot of different issues I am working on. I guess I’m a bit of a complicated case. But she has been up to the challenge, responds quickly to messages and has always been there when I need her. One of the most important things is that you feel you can really open up to your therapist and I feel that I can talk to her about whatever I need to.
After working with Debra for just a couple of months, I have seen my anxiety drastically reduce. I learned a tremendous amount from her about how to manage and effectively cope with anxiety and trauma. I have seen great results when putting these new things into practice. She is very patient, kind, and understanding. I found it easy to open up to her. She is also very good about checking in and making sure I am on track to becoming a better version of myself.
She offers many different ways to solve my problems and issues. She replies quickly to messages, too. I feel like my life is coming back together with the use of this program and through her help.
She’s a very kind natured person. Great listener and is very solutions oriented. I feel very supported by Debra and working with her has helped me tremendously
