About me

Hello! My name is Domingo Zapata and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) from south Texas, also known as the Rio Grande Valley. I have been a practicing therapist as of 2016, providing outpatient mental health services for local nonprofit behavioral health agencies in my community as well as in the university setting. I enjoy working with individuals of all ages and of any gender identification. This is not a place of judgment, but rather a place of love and acceptance. As a counselor, being of aid and emotional support in any manner will always come first. I firmly believe everyone deserves to be treated with immense care, kindness, and compassion.

I specialize in treating and coping with depression, anxiety, trauma/abuse, low self-esteem/motivation, as well as LGBTQIA+ related concerns, as being of aid to the LGBTQIA+ community is central to my personal philosophy and personal life. My approach as a counselor is highly existential and client-centered in theory, as I believe no two individuals are alike and have found immense success with the combination of various forms of psychotherapy, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), existential therapy, narrative therapy, mindfulness, and solution-focused therapy.

Ultimately, taking the first step in asking for help is the best thing one can do, and for that, I am immensely proud of you. I look forward to helping you on your path to health and healing!

I'm in the early stages of my therapy journey with Domingo, and I already feel like I made the right choice in selecting him as my therapist. From our initial sessions, he's created a welcoming and non-judgmental environment where I feel comfortable opening up.
What stands out most is his genuine listening skills and the way he asks thoughtful questions that help me explore my thoughts and feelings more deeply. Even though we're just getting started, I can already sense his commitment to understanding my unique situation and helping me work toward my goals.
Domingo's approach feels both professional and warmly human. He explains things clearly when I need clarification and never makes me feel rushed. I appreciate that he's helping me build a foundation for the work ahead while respecting my pace.
I'm optimistic about continuing this therapeutic relationship and grateful to have found someone who seems genuinely invested in my well-being. For anyone considering therapy, I'd encourage giving Domingo a chance - his caring approach and expertise are already making a difference in my life.
