My name is Elizabeth Scala and I am a licensed social worker. I have practiced social work for 40 years in Michigan and Canada. My background includes 28 years as a medical social worker, and early years working with children and adults in psychiatric settings. I am new to remote work and look forward to learning and growing with you.
My focus is on how we as people are always trying to do what we think is best for our own safety, survival, and happiness. Yet we can feel unhappy, anxious, and have behaviors we want to change. I believe we are many parts that make one whole person, and it is helpful to recognize each part of ourselves. In sorting through each aspect of ourselves, we find a way toward happiness and healing.
Life has many opportunities for happiness. But our feelings and experiences can make us doubt our worth and ability to feel joy. As a therapist I try to be a partner in your journey to discover those parts of life and yourself you can trust and enjoy.
My techniques are learning from you, research and application of any therapeutic approach you may find helpful and finding resources in your world to help meet your goals. I follow established social work theories of psychosocial development, systems theory, and the strengths perspective of psychotherapy.
I have experience with people who are coping with medical problems, disability, grief, loss, caregiver stress, behavior problems, anger, anxiety, depression, and coping with difficulty social circumstances.
Medical issues and recent adverse medical diagnoses.

Elizabeth jumps in with both feet! She is incredibly warm and kind, while still being assertive enough to address the issues you want to work through. She is thoughtful and creative in her approach, and the first therapist who I feel truly works wonders remotely!
Elizabeth has a warm and accepting attitude. She listens and then reflects on the session with intention. She has a wealth of experience in the mental health field and is a pleasure to work with. I feel well supported and seen.

Elizabeth was an excellent thoughtful councilor to me. She was a encouraging and calm presence for me, and really put me at ease during our sessions. My sessions with her were my first contact with mental health support, and I cannot recommend her enough.
