About me

Welcome! My name is Emily and I am a licensed professional counselor in the states of Maine, New Hampshire and Wisconsin. I have over 20 years of experience working in the mental health field.

I feel so committed to this kind of work; the ability to partner with others and help them see their strengths and abilities to empower them. I strive to create a healing space where growth, understanding and change can occur.

I love the quote by Carl Jung, "We are not what happened to us, we are who we choose to become." This is what I think therapy is all about; guiding others to embrace that their past does not define them. This is not just a philosophy or modality of a treatment. It is a way of being and seeing in the world, a way of seeing the potential and nobility in anything or anyone.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Emily Gutierrez. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

Emily is a great therapist! She is very attentive, and a very good listener. She has been such a wonderful person to talk to and made getting back into therapy a lot less stressful. Working with her has helped me see things from different perspectives, which is something I really appreciate. I was unsure how I would feel about therapy through messenger and live chats but Emily made it very easy, was always on time for live chats, and responded to my messages in a very reasonable time.

I have greatly Enjoyed Better help. For me I appreciate how I do not have to make a scheduled appointment, I can message Emily with my concerns/ problems and she gets back to me in a timely manner. (But if I wanted to I could!) I also greatly appreciate when she’s on vacation or a day off etc better help is great with not charging for that time.
Overall Emily has helped me to see things from a different perspective, my mind is changing and I am very thankful that better help exists. I highly recommend it to other friends.

Working with Emily has been one of the most healing and clarifying experiences of my life. She brings a rare blend of calm, compassion, and grounded wisdom to each session. I never feel judged—just seen, heard, and gently guided toward deeper truth.

What I especially appreciate is her ability to meet me exactly where I am, while still encouraging growth. Whether I’m struggling with shame, navigating boundaries, or reclaiming parts of myself, Emily holds space with real presence and care.

If you're looking for a therapist who honors your journey without rushing it—someone who helps you feel safe to be your full, messy, beautiful self—Emily is truly a gift.

Emily is truly one of a kind! She takes every issue you present her with and provides guidance, worksheets, and other resources to help you improve whatever you are looking for. She was a vast array of knowledge on multiple areas of struggle, that she is able to tailor to, but never fails to hit the overall mark of guidance.
