Welcome! My name is Emily and I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Wisconsin. I have over 18 years of experience working in the mental health field. I have worked in a variety of settings including schools, residential, outpatient, in-home, and private practice.
I feel so committed to this kind of work; the ability to partner with others and help them see their strengths and abilities to empower them. I work to create a healing space where growth, understanding and change can occur.
I love the quote by Carl Jung "we are not what happened to us, we are who we choose to become". This is what I think therapy is all about; helping people understand this and see their future, one that is full of hope and the ability to overcome the challenges and struggles that life can bring. This is not just a philosophy or modality of a treatment. It is a way of being and seeing in the world, a way of seeing the potential and nobility in anything or anyone.

Emily is the best counselor I have ever interacted with! She offers helpful suggestions and comes up with all sorts of extras that apply to me. Her comments are meaningful and genuine. I've has more "ah ha!" moments in my first week of counseling with Emily than I have over decades of counseling with others. I had no idea online counseling could be so effective, and I think Emily is a big part of the reason why!

A lovely and professional counselor who not only gives practical ways to improve mental health but genuinely listens and cares for your well-being. She comments on both your personal concerns and also those which she has encouraged you to think about in that particular week. Emily is great. There's always some anxiety when an email comes through but when I open it, it's like a weight lifted off my shoulder.

Frankly, I'm really impressed with the betterhelp service so far. I wasn't expecting it to be such a long term thing, but I feel no desire at all to leave online counselling just yet.
I really like Emily. She's friendly and attentive, and is a great help when it comes to dealing with a lot of different issues. I like how personable she is; it doesn't feel like I'm talking to someone who's trying to categorise my issues to a textbook, but someone with thoughts and feelings and an intent to help me make some changes.
The response times are always quick, and I like how she remembers specific details of things you've said in the past, it helps with trying to understand the current problems and how they connect, and therefore how you can go about fixing them.
I am completely comfortable to share, and don't feel like I have to edit anything; she's completely non-judgemental, and extremely empathetic.
I think that that is sometimes a quality lost in people in the profession, sometimes the professional psychology can get in the way of understanding the human experiences behind these problems, but Emily just feels like another person to talk to. She's clearly very educated in an abundance of issues; which is helpful when so many different things can make up a problem, but manages to help in a very human way. I don't feel like another textbook case, and I feel genuinely supported.
Online counselling has been a huge help, and I would completely recommend Emily Gutierrez.
Emily is very understanding. She listens and answers (in time) with expertise. I learned a lot from her and I trust her. I was also surprised that by only messaging you could get so much help.

I'm really happy with my experience with Emily Gutierrez so far. I feel heard and respected but not coddled. She provides things I can work on that help clarify and organize thoughts and feelings I have. I feel like I am accomplishing something everytime we message. I don't ever feel like I am getting a canned response, or being patronized. It's been a positive and rewarding experience so far.
It starts slow but she listens to me and give me lots of activities and has developped tools to analyse them and was spot on in helping me know myself better.
Emily helped me deal with a mild case of PTSD following a traumatic start to the year. She was a great help in guiding towards regaining control over my life, and enabling me to get back to the old me.
