Thank you for your interest in learning more about me. My name is Farhat Hasan, and I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Texas. I have an Educational Specialist degree in Counseling from Mississippi State University and a Master of Education degree in Counseling from the University of Mississippi. I have 9 years of experience as a counselor in both face-to-face and online modalities and have provided services to clients from diverse backgrounds in a variety of settings including schools, residential drug rehabilitation centers, in-patient, outpatient, and in group homes.
My numerous professional experiences in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, clinics, and in schools have equipped me with an exceptional set of abilities and clinical expertise, which help me assist my clients in reaching their unique goals.
I have experience working with anxiety, depression, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anger management, family conflict, relationship conflicts, drug abuse, post-partum stress, and trauma/abuse. I also have experience working with depression, intellectual/developmental disabilities, mild autism, international students/spouses, and immigrant populations.
My counseling philosophy is based on accepting the individual (including/considering their background), life experiences, and personal beliefs. My counseling approach is client-centered - I work with clients together to help them develop insight and to identify their strengths, which they can use immediately to make changes. I also help them monitor that change, so that they can continue to work toward their goals. I will be there to guide, encourage and, if appropriate, challenge them, to help them see and take appropriate steps on their own to overcome their obstacles.
Most of all, I offer a listening ear to hear and authenticate client’s thoughts and emotions and help them build a plan to facilitate moving forward. Therapy can be a fun and simple journey with me, and I always work with my clients where they stand in that moment. It takes huge strength and will-power to seek help. This is probably the first time that taking to a stranger fees like talking to a old friend who knows me. She listens, gathers my words and puts them so that they make sence. I am so grateful that I got Farhat as my counselor.
The catalyst for me beginning therapy was a violent and traumatic interaction with a close family member 3 months ago. I was desparate to move past the pain and anger. However, from my past experiences it was clear that the usual strategies of bottling my emotions and soldiering on, although likely to get me through in the short term, were unlikely to be truely effective. Looking back to that event, I realize how far I’ve come and my sessions with Farhat contributed greatly to this. Simply having the opportunity to talk through what had happened with someone impartial, who wouldn’t judge me or the other parties related was extremely powerful. Having the option to still do so when I didn’t yet feel ready to ‘see’ someone removed a huge barrier to me seeking help. Speaking to Farhat by telephone, as I initially did, thankfully didn’t prevent transmission of her warmth and compassion. Our sessions were always shaped by whatever I brought with me. They raised searching questions and provided me with information that helped me gain valuable insight into some of the possible drivers behind mine and others’ behaviors. Farhat also shared practical tools which I could use to interrogate my thought patterns and also help me to
manage and work through challenging emotions. Working with Farhat, I gained language which has helped me to deepen my understanding of myself. I rediscovered the motivation and courage to reconnect with parts of myself I had neglected, and also with other people. The journey I’ve taken over the past months hasn’t been linear and has consisted of low points as well as high points. There were times when I did not look forward to sessions and felt like I just didn’t want to talk. Despite this, I showed up and was always glad that I did. It is said that awareness is the first step to change and I feel that therapy is an invaluable part of this first step. I’m extremely grateful to Farhat for holding space for me, for reminding me to have compassion for myself and for others and for helping me to identify areas that need healing and attention as I move forward.
Farhat has The Sight. Her keen understanding of multicultural elements and how they affect each other allows her to see situations from several angles and provide excellent counseling. I appreciate how human Farhat is - her humor keeps the connection genuine while her compassion makes me feel like she always has my back.
Throughout my journey I have felt supported by Farhat and she is so quick at getting back to my messages even if we live in very different time zones! Her expertise has given me great tools that help with the situations that I have been working with. She could read me like an open book and was able to give me advice on how I could understand myself and my behaviour better. It has been an absolute delight to work with Farhat. Her approach is very natural, almost like talking to a good friend she is always positive and encouraging and I could already see progress after our very first session.

I sought help after experiencing panic attacks because of my grandmother’s illness. After a few sessions with Farhat, I no longer experienced these panic attacks. After our discussions I began to have perspective. She also suggested ways in which I could connect with my grandma despite her illness. She understood and acknowledged my feelings and taught me strategies on best to change my disruptive and unhelpful thoughts. I feel as though I am more better equipped to deal with my anxiety.
Dr. Hasan has been a great help during a difficult time. She has helped me figure out many things and also helped me come up with a plan of action when it comes to fixing long term issues. She's understanding and strives to help.

Farhat has been very kind and honest with me. She allows me to say all that I need to say, express all that I need to express, and then she gives me advice/feedback. She points out when I've approached something in a positive way and helps me connect current issues/situations with past trauma while still encouraging me to reflect, accept, and move on. I have trouble confronting the negativity in my life and in my thoughts, so she provides a safe space for me to share.
I also have a lot of anxiety and I overthink things frequently. She provides me with helpful references/reading material and worksheets to help me focus and sort out my thoughts on my own.

Farhat was a lifesaver for me. When I met her, I was at what I think was the lowest moment in my life - griefing, suffering from panic/anxiety attacks - feeling as if getting out of bed in the morning was a great feat. I couldn't even think of a future that wasn't about just surviving. Less than 6 months down the line, I know that the loss I suffered will always be part of my story, but I know that it's not the end. I've finalized that chapter, given it enough of a conclusion to be able to pick up again. I'm extremely optimistic about the future. What Farhat has done for me is make me see that there is always life after loss and our pain doesn't have to become our single story and what we keep carrying moving forward. Today, I can honestly say that I am happy. Very happy in fact. I see not only glimpses of who I was before my loss, but the realization that this is who I will always be, even with pain, grief, and all sorts of other difficulties that life may bring. She gave me the ability to pick up myself and draw on my inner resilience to begin this new, wonderful chapter of my life.
Farhat is a breath of fresh air! She is so warm and welcoming, her personality invites you to open up ad feel safe to speak and share! She had an amazing sense of humour and laughs with you through your experiences. I have seen several counsellors by my past and I feel she was the perfect match for me! She is understanding but will also not sugar coat things. She is a realist and will ask you the tough questions and make you self reflect. Counselling in not a magic fix it, you have to put in the work and she helps you in every way and gives you the tools but only if YOU are willing. She is never pushy and nothing feels forced but she knows the right questions to ask to draw out info you may not have known needs to be explored. I have been seeing her over a month now and plan to continue allowing her to help e grow. Highly recommend!!

I have had 4 sessions with Farhat and in all the 4 of them I ended up feeling better than before. Not because there were things said to me to make me feel better but because they were explained in the way that made my healing easier. It's not easy to get over any trauma but with proper counseling and support you can get out of any trauma big or small. In my sessions I learned to consider my feelings and to be true to myself. I learned to heal you have to forgive yourself for things you couldn't control and how there are all kinds of people in this world that we come across and how to deal with them. At times you feel things that you can't share with anyone because you are afraid people might judge you for feeling this way. In Farhat's sessions I could talk about my feelings without having to worry about anything.
I have greatly benefited from counseling with Farhat through addressing my experience as an immigrant and addressing my concerns with substance abuse, anxiety and self confidence. Farhat is a great counselor because she listens closely to what you are trying to address and is able to give me some insight into what I am battling within myself.

Farhat has been instrumental to helping me feel good, period. There is no doubt in my mind that I would have gotten over my difficult break up on my own, but I believe it would have taken me a multiple of months longer on my own. Working with her was not easy, I found the first several sessions difficult and hurtful because I was forced to do a lot of reflecting, but now I feel good about where I am and am so grateful for her guidance and professionalism. I have found the support that Farhat has offered me very comforting and reassuring. She has helped me unhinge feelings that I was burying and festering by suggesting ways to move forward. I feel I can progress by acknowledging that the rift with my family has not been my choice and have been advised by Farhat how to manage the situation without being resentful or involving others. So, I came on BetterHelp to improve my mental health and fix some issues with mydepression, overthinking and catastrophizing. Luckily, I can say that with the help from my Counselor Farhat, I was definitely able to get a better view on certain situations. She is, for sure, understanding, gives great advice and tries to give you as much help as possible in the limited time of a session. I can confidently say that she has helped me a great deal to improve my mental health and view of life, moreover to find positives in the negatives.
