Gloria Gitlin, LPC
About me
I am Gloria Gitlin. I am a professional counselor and a teacher. I have worked in private practice, a psychiatric hospital, and several agencies. My approach to counseling is multi-faceted, similar to my education. I have a Masters in Psychology and am certified as a professional counselor. Prior to going into the field of psychology, I obtained a Ph.D. in Linguistics. My interests lie in the area of language and its effect on cognitions and ultimately on behavior.
I am a firm believer that what we think determines what we do. I like to do research on cognition and subsequent feelings and behavior. Many researchers have found that what we think and believe determines how we perceive the world, and how we perceive determines what we see and what we do. A change in perception can change the make-up of the world and one’s surroundings.
Feelings are important, but can be misleading, even to ourselves. That would account for the many misunderstandings and disagreements, and hurt feelings. If we want to gain some control over life and its circumstances, we need to gain some insight into our thoughts and beliefs. That is what counseling is about. We will explore feelings, beliefs, and thoughts to try to determine what it is that is causing the disruption in your life. There is not a situation that cannot be improved upon by finding out who we are and the determining circumstances that led us to this point. Uncovering the problem is the first step to finding a solution.
I would be happy to help you in the process of gaining some insight and some control over your life, so that you might enjoy a more harmonious existence and a more fulfilling life.
