About Me

Lets be honest, I know that it is not always easy to come to therapy and talk about difficult issues, however I want to assure you that I am here to help you with whatever life has thrown your way, and I am in this journey to self-improvement with you. Additionally, I want to teach you the skills I use to work through these problems so that you will come away from therapy with a better understanding of yourself, and how to independently work through your issues in the future. I specialize in relationship issues, couples, stress and anxiety management, anger/aggression management, depression and bipolar, and LBGT issues. My passion is helping people, and I would be happy to help you.

Jay Swedlaw has been a huge support system to talk things through. We lost everything due to Hurricane Harvey and Jay has been able to help keep me in a good mental space during the darkest time I have experienced. I am thankful for his insight and professionalism. I highly recommend him.

I am so satisfied with Jay Swedlaw. He has been extremely helpful with my problem. I cannot believe how comfortable I felt immediately. I trusted him completely and was able to tell him intimate details of my life. I feel like a great load has been lifted from my shoulders.

I really have enjoyed my time with Jay. Even though I was skeptical of digital counseling he has helped me work through some mental issues I have been facing recently. Would definitely recommend.

I started with betterHelp to try a new and more efficient way to get myself to therapy. I was lucky to find Jay on my first match. He has been very good at pin pointing what I am trying to work on even when I am really just venting. His advise and comments have been very helpful and I am finding much more improvement in my personal life. Thank you Jay!

Jay is a very sensitive and perceptive counselor. He uses his story, experience to make his point. He makes you feel comfortable to share your darkest bipolar thoughts without being judgmental. He has worked with a wide spectrum of disorders and his knowledge is deep. I highly recommend Jay for bipolar patients with identity issues, gay and self-esteem issues, etc.

I enjoyed speaking with Jay on the phone. Jay asked the right questions to understand my scenario, and I think this helped him counsel me successfully. I feel much better now, and attribute this in part to Jay. I feel much more comfortable with email/web based counseling after a brief phone call with him.

He is very empathetic, genuine, and realistic. I appreciate his honesty, his ability to understand my limitations, and his tenacity. I am not at all a trusting person, but I feel that if I am ever in a place where I could trust someone, it would be him.

Written by J.A. on Apr 28, 2017 after counseling with Jay for 1 month relationship, and intimacy-related

I was a bit uncertain seeking help online but I was desperate and time did not allow for me to go about it the old fashioned way.
I immedietly felt a valid connection with Jay and I really felt that he knew what I was feeling. He did not shame me in any way, he did not place blame on me, he made me feel at ease and all the while assuring me that what I was going through and what I was feeling was not abnormal. That was a relief. The dialogue between us was helpful in that he would ask applicable questions and provide solutions. I really had to think and stay on topic, which is something I could not do alone. He stayed in touch even when I couldn't be reached. Thank you, Jay.

I have had the opportunity to work with Jay for the past month and a bit. He has been really helpful!

I was suffering from high anxiety and some depression. Jay was really helpful in providing solutions and helping to create goals to alleviate some of the stresses. He is very responsive, timely, and informative. What I really liked about Jay is he put the responsibility on me to make the changes, but supported you along the way. He won't do the work for you, but give you the tools to succeed.

I highly recommend his counseling if you are in the LGBTQ community, have relationship issues, concerns about work, living a better work-life balance, or just need someone to speak too.

Thanks Jay!

Written by A.S on Oct 17, 2016 after counseling with Jay for 1 month depression, stress, anxiety, lgbt, relationship, family, grief, and parenting

Jay has asked me questions which have caused me to think deeply about my relationship in a way that I wouldn't have without this counselling process. As a result I'm handling things differently and I have more confidence to carry out my actions within this relationship, rather than continually doubting whether what I am doing is right. This process has been incredibly helpful for me. Other issues in my life that I've been dealing with have been sidelined a bit in the counselling process though - I think Jay is right that the relationship issue is dominating things and needs my biggest focus.
