About Me

I'm Kathie, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California with over 4 years of clinical experience. I am an affirmative therapist that has experience working with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, communication and relationship issues, and dealing with life's transitions in the LBGTQIA+ community. I also have worked extensively with physical and emotional trauma.

My style of therapy is very eclectic, which means I draw from different types of healing modalities and theories and will utilize what suits your needs. I combine mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral, existential, feminist, and narrative therapy. I don't believe in labeling or diagnosing a person for their experiences and believe in the importance of language and how we use our words to make meaning. I also strongly believe it's important for me to understand where you are coming from, so I am always striving to maintain cultural awareness, competency, and sensitivity.

I do think that we are born whole but sometimes things happen that make us forget or lose our wholeness, so that means we just have to learn and try new ways to help ourselves feel complete again. I hope we can do that together. I look forward to working with you!

Written by A.V. on Nov 12, 2020 after therapy with Kathie for 4 months on issues concerning stress, anxiety, trauma and abuse, and adhd

As a black queer nonbinary neurodivergent person, one of the first things I worry about with a therapist is that they aren't antiracist and understanding of the systimic issues that play into the mental health that affect oppressed groups that I am. I feel so incredibly lucky that I was matched with Kathie - I feel that Kathie is empathetic, understanding, trauma-informed and offers a wealth of information and tools to help me be more mindful and accountable during my week. I look forward to my sessions weekly.
