I live in Texas and possess an unobstructed Texas professional counseling (LPC) license. I obtained a Master’s degree in Counseling and an undergraduate degree in psychology. I have worked for a mental health facility for six years and obtained experience in crisis, psycho-social rehabilitation, received training and experience in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and received a certification of training in Cognitive Processing Therapy for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I have worked with people of various ages and development. I have extensive use of the DSM IV and V.
I have experience in working with those who have or have had substance abuse problems, and I have worked in two residential, judicial dual diagnosis centers. Dual diagnosis means these individuals not only have a substance abuse problem, but they have a diagnosable mental illness.
There is continuous research and study, and I continue to search for arenas to expand and update my experience and knowledge in counseling techniques and in mental health. I have an extreme passion to see improvement, empowerment, support and progress not only in my clients but also in myself. I cannot help my client if I do not have those qualities myself.
I am a Christian and do not fear using Biblical principles in my counseling practice.
My main clinical approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), but I also adopt other techniques from other approaches such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Gestalt, Person-Centered (Rogerian), and Integrative/Holistic. I am a firm believer that every person is composed of physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual facets, and each facet has an effect on the other aspects of the person.
I have counseled individuals who have received such diagnoses as schizophrenia, bipolar, major depressive disorder, borderline personality disorder, narcissistic personality disorder, anxiety adjustment disorder to name a few. Though I do not specialize in this field, I have gained experience in working with strained relationships and marriages and family conflicts. Fortunately, part of my required studies in college were in family dynamics and in relationships. What I have learned in class came in very handy in dealing with dual diagnosis.
My counseling style is down-to-earth, warm, and nonthreatening. However, I will set boundaries, and I can be firm regarding those boundaries. I will correct anything that enhances negativity or the stigma that seems to accompany mental illness. I also believe in treating my clients the way I want to be treated. It is my belief that everyone has the right to a more content and rewarding life. If you are brave enough to face the issues that have kept you from these goals, then I am proud that you have chosen me to stand by your side to help you reach your goals. I look forward to working with you!

I am so grateful for this self-help tool. My whole family has benefited.
I have been talking with Kathryn for 5 months now. She literally has pulled me out of my depression and anxiety ridden self. I could not have done it without her although she will tell you that you did it yourself. She is calm and very reliable. I can always count on her to answer me back within a day if not sooner. Now when we talk it’s more like talking with a friend. Thankfully my anxiety is dang near gone and no longer depressed. I was so depressed i was in bed 90 percent of the day. I’m so thankful for her and better help. Thank you so much! You hold a special place in my heart always.
Thank you for constantly supporting me.
She is very knowledgeable regarding trauma. She has a holistic approach to counseling. If a person is willing to do the work, she is in the trenches right with you. Strongly recommend Ms. Kathryn.
She is so patient and is able to explain what you are actually feeling when you can’t find the right words. I’ve learned so much about myself I didn’t know and also new ways to cope. She wants you to be able to be your own counselor and I get better at it each day.
I think this is an amazing outlet for someone needing help with day to day life, just to be able to talk to someone and work through your emotions are life changing. Try it.
Kathy takes the time to listen and give honest, yet supportive feedback. She’s been really helpful so far!
I really appreciated Kathryn's time and effort. She got to the heart of my issues fairly quickly and I feel these sessions really helped.
Kathryn is a counselor that I immediately felt comfortable with and when I described my "issues" she understood what I meant and what my goals were. She is a godsend in a critical, challenging time in my life and I am very pleased to be working with her.
Kathryn Robinson is fantastic! She has been a great blessing in my life. Highly recommend!
Kathryn Robinson is a wonderful person, I could not have picked a better counselor for what I have been going through. She is really supportive, respectful, wise, mature, experienced, humorous, strong, keen, observant, and humble. I have learned a LOT about myself and about people, life, and relationships, and I'm still learning! I went from victim to victor. I have the utmost confidence in Kathryn! I gladly consider her, not just only as my counselor, but as one of my close friends.
She’s always patient and accommodating my hectic schedule. She has a calming spirit and always has wisdom and techniques to help.
My counselor, by helping me answer my concerns, is giving me suggestions I had not considered.
An individual of intelligence and discernment who is willing to step past the norm in order to best help and support her clients.
