Dr. Kourtney Vaillancourt

(PhD, LMFT, LADAC)

About Me

Thank you for taking the time to read through my profile, I am glad that you are taking the step to reach out for help!

To begin, I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, a Licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselor, and a Life Coach in New Mexico. For the past 14 years I've worked with individuals, couples, and families across the lifespan to tackle challenges that they're facing in their lives. I have specialized training in family relationships, marriage/couples, substance abuse, sexuality, mindfulness, grief and loss, trauma, and military families. I engage in a non-judgmental approach to helping clients identify their strengths and use those to tackle the problems they face.

I think that it is important for me to note that I really love the work that I do, and I love being able to provide therapy through a platform that is convenient and available 24/7. Online therapy is new and exciting, but also may be a little scary at first. I'm here to take things at your pace and to help you to navigate the platform and to help you feel at ease with this style of work. :)

I engage in client-centered practice where your needs and wishes are respected and honored. I practice from a systems perspective that involves considering how the challenges you face are impacted by, and likewise impact, the systems to which you belong (i.e., family, work, community). I am also a strengths-based therapist who avoids pathologizing anyone, we all experience challenges and need help from time to time, that is not an indication of some inherent weakness. I am comfortable working with liberals and conservatives, religious and non-religious individuals alike. Because I adopt a non-judgmental approach and one that allows you to be the expert in your own life, my own perceptions and beliefs take a back seat. Of course it is impossible to completely avoid bias, but I actively address with my clients their beliefs and values and we work together to understand one another and respect differing perspectives. So please do not be confused or discouraged because I list in my profile that I can work with people from opposite spiritual, religious, or otherwise beliefs...the client-centered practice that I have built allows an opportunity for this. I am also happy to discuss this further if questions arise. :)

Personally, I am the mother of two young and energetic boys who keep me running! I have been married for 15 years, my husband and I enjoy watching movies, camping, hiking, and most of all laughing. We also have two very spoiled dogs who round out our household.

I take pride and joy in my work and look forward to engaging with you as you begin your journey to a better you!

Dr. V is there right when I need her. I feel something or experience something and I write it immediately. I don’t have to remember it for next week’s session by the end of the day I have a response from a caring understanding person and that encourages me to face another day. I feel safe with her and that’s what I always wanted.

Dr Vaillancourt is wonderful. I have been seeing her for the last few years & continue to come back to her. She is a great listener, very knowledgeable, very empathetic & never pretends life is easy.
I would very highly recommend her to anyone as she is one of the best Drs I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with.

Written by E.N. on Jun 01, 2018 after counseling with Kourtney for 2 weeks on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, addictions, family, eating, sleeping, parenting, self esteem, anger, career, and bipolar

Dr. Vaillancourt strikes a commendable balance between professionalism and heart: I feel like she really personally cares about helping me, but tempers it with the right methods. She also manages to ask pertinent and important questions even if the patient deluges her with information while still acknowledging important points brought up by the patient. I believe she is great at pinpointing and acting on important details to move the discussion forward.

Dr. V (a new nickname I've found to be easier to term her with)- has been VERY wonderful to work with. She does a great job at responding, usually within 24 hours or sooner, and she has helped keep me focused on the important things because I sometimes can be long-winded. She is compassionate, understanding, honest, and very easy to talk too. I would recommend Dr. V as 10+ stars --- BetterHelp (& myself!) are fortunate to have such a professional & helpful counselor to work with.
