I am a seasoned psychotherapist with a rich cultural background, being multi-racial – African, Indigenous, and Irish American. With over 35 years of experience in the field of human behavior, I have worked with diverse populations and settings ranging from Long Island to New York City.
My educational journey began with a degree in Communication Arts from Hofstra University, specializing in film. However, my passion for documentaries and understanding people led me to pursue a Master of Social Work at Stony Brook University. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with extensive training in alcohol, substance abuse, mental health, and the treatment of dual diagnoses.
Throughout my career, I have worn various hats from being a Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) to a CASAC-Master, psychiatric social worker, psychotherapist, and Addictions Specialist. My clientele has been diverse, spanning different age groups, educational backgrounds, professions, and cultural affiliations.
In my practice, I place a strong emphasis on authenticity and attachment in my interactions with clients. I have found that fostering genuine connections helps reduce anxiety and creates a safe space for growth and healing. My therapeutic approach is client-centered and eclectic, drawing from cognitive-behavioral techniques and motivational interviewing to establish and achieve therapy goals.
I have a successful track record in addressing a wide range of mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, Bipolar disorder, Dissociative disorders, OCD, as well as providing support for couples through couple/marital therapy techniques.
I firmly believe in the power of psychotherapy or talk therapy as a transformative and empowering tool for personal growth and positive change. It is my hope to guide clients through their challenges, help them set and achieve goals, and ultimately create a more fulfilling life.
I invite you to embark on this therapeutic journey with me, where we can work together towards unlocking your full potential and creating meaningful changes in your life.

Louis is not only a great counselor but he is very easy to talk to. He was able to address all of my concerns that I had. I brought up a variety of issues that I was struggling with during my 6 months with Louis and even though it took me time to improve, Louis was there to monitor my progress as well as walk through how I'm feeling the way I am. I would highly recommend talk therapy with Louis, especially if you struggle with any anxiety, personal relationship and/or self-esteem related issues.

Keeps the conversation on what need to be worked on, great listener.

After the first "get to know you" type sessions, Mr. Walthall was extremely easy to talk to, gives you no nonsense feedback and helped me uncover some truths about myself that have confused and held me back in life for years. I have been working with him for a few months and am already feeling confident to keep working with the tools he's shown me on my own and start taking ownership of my life again.

Louis is outstanding. Therapy with him is like a conversation but he always manages to bring it back to the original problems and has you talk through them. Very relaxing and interesting person. I came to Louis after several losses during COVID and he’s helped me improve dramatically in the last 2 months. I definitely recommended Louis as a person to help you work through your problems in a friendly way.
