Thank you for clicking on my profile link and expressing interest in getting to know me as a clinician on BetterHelp. My name is Magalis Sandoval, but you may call me Maggie. I have been working in the field of mental health and addiction as a licensed clinical social worker since 2011, but have been working in the human services field since 2006 with at-risk youth and survivors of domestic violence. In 2007 I started my journey working in a residential substance abuse program and since then I have been inspired while working with patients who have successfully made positive changes in their lives.
My goal during therapy is to help increase self-awareness and insight into the relationship between the individual's thinking and behaviors. I incorporate mindfulness based techniques and cognitive behavioral therapy in my practice and have witnessed immediate positive outcomes when dealing with anxiety, depression, addiction and symptoms of PTSD. I acquired my certification as an anger management specialist, and genuinely enjoy helping people develop techniques that allow them the opportunity to manage their anger in healthy and productive ways.
My office hours are Sundays 8 am - 2 pm, and Monday-Thursday 5pm -8 pm. So I am still new to this online session therapy, and to be honest I was quite worried that the type of counselor I would get would not be a good one. But during our time together I can say that Magalis is quite different, and rather special. I appreciate her honesty, and her firm yet kind demeanor. She gives me feedback with perfect tact. I would recommend anyone of my friends or colleagues to her.

This is my first time in therapy, so I wasn't quite sure what I was going to get out of it or really what I needed. I went into this experience looking for an attentive ear to help me process my life. Coming out of quarantine, I was left really mentally and emotionally shaken and defeated. At the time, I didn't realize I could feel so supported through a computer screen. I have been so happy to have made the leap to doing online therapy.
