About Me

Sometimes life is hard. "Things fall apart, the center cannot hold," the poet tells us. But we do not have to go it alone.

My primary role is to come alongside you as you journey in the way of wellness. I really believe in the strength that is in you. And I believe that we can work together to leverage it toward your goals. I believe that you are unique and will relate to you accordingly.

I have been practicing counseling for 16 years in a variety of capacities and settings. My approach is collaborative, eclectic, and solution-focused. My style is calm and conversational. I utilize a variety of interventions, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Behavioral Activation.

I work with people with a wide range of difficulties, including depression, anxiety, and mood disturbances. I also have a strong interest in spiritual issues, and am happy to work with people of faith, or people struggling with faith-related issues.

I earned a Bachelor's degree in Social Work in 2004 from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK, and a Master's in Social Work in 2009 from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Hawaii.

I am a parent of four girls, a lifelong musician, a bread baker, gardener, lover of forests and baseball. I ride my bike when I can and sometimes do experiments in my kitchen (some of which do not end well).

Mark is an incredible listener and support. From our first session I felt understood and supported. What I value the most is that Mark can address my concerns from a Faith lens, and yet provide practical guidance to help me process my concerns. I'm grateful for Mark and his compassion.

I would highly recommend Mark for counseling. He was an excellent listener and provided helpful insight into challenges I had been facing. He was the support I needed in order to feel the validation and get the answers that I needed.

A few years ago I had a massive panic attack at an airport. Needless to say after that, my life was never the same. I couldn’t leave my house for an entire year, not even to see a therapist in person. Luckily, I found better help and they connected me with Mark. After the first session I already had. A weight lifted off my shoulders. Recovery from my incident wasn’t an easy path, but Mark was there through it all and he literally saved me from a life of being stuck indoors and not seeing friends and experiencing things. Thanks to his help, I was able to slowly make my way out more and now I am traveling and living life and setting big goals. I literally owe my life to him. I would not be where I am today without his help.

Mark has been my counselor for many seasons. He is great at celebrating my success and helping me see them in a new light. Mark also keeps me accountable by checking in what we discuss in previous sessions. He is equal parts validating and inquisitive as he guides me towards realizations I haven't noticed myself. I would highly recommend Mark to anyone looking for a counselor!

Talking to Mark feels like talking to an old friend. He is very relatable but also understanding of the uniqueness and complexity of my personal situation. His down to earth, conversational counseling style has helped me to strengthen my connections with others, but most importantly to reconnect with myself.

I've only had one session with Mark. That session was incredibly insightful and he really addressed my major concerns. It was nice talking to someone who kept it things casual and an environment to open up. I'm excited to continue counseling with him and getting my mental health back on track.

Sometimes in life I have found that you need help; hard to do in your hometown and you do not want to burden your friends with all the things you are trying to process. You need to reach out and start to articulate where you are now. This has been hard for me during everything that is going on because the last thing I wanted to do was talk about it or put it into words but I am slowly feeling like this is a very valuable process and I am grateful my daughter helped me find this outlet and great resource. It is never easy but becomes easier as you reach out.
