About Me
Welcome to BetterHelp! You have made a brave and beautiful step toward better managing your life and feeling better. The decision to start counseling is never easy and takes a lot of courage. I commend you and extend my commitment to stand beside you as you move forward on this journey.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Missouri, board certified by the National Board for Certified Counselors. I hold an International Reciprocal Certification as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor and am Certified in the States of Missouri and Arkansas. I am also a Missouri Certified Clinical Supervisor. I have been providing therapy for the past 14 years and have been in the mental health field for 17 years. I have a history in the education field and experience serving persons across the age spectrum, with a passion for encouraging young people to preserving the dignity and life satisfaction of the elderly. My 30-year career is full of a variety of interesting and interconnected experiences in helping people find safety, knowledge, health, personal satisfaction, stability, understanding, growth and enrichment; with time spent in public relations, journalism, education, law enforcement, the court system, and mental health. What I found was that people were very similar - everyone was looking for something that gave their life meaning, contentment in relationships-work-family life, and a desire to feel care for and understood.
Counseling is my passion and my clients sense that as a sincere interest in their well-being and a compassion for their life circumstances and personal journeys. My approach is to meet the amazing people I work with wherever they may be in their lives and walk with them on their journey toward better health and a more content and fulfilling life.
I utilize several counseling approaches, including mindfulness training (helping people focus on the present and be fully in touch with their thoughts, emotions, body sensations and environment, without judgement of self or others); Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (exploring how thoughts impact emotions and behavior and practical ways to change thought processes to improve mood and change patterns of behavior); and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (focusing on learning skills to better understand emotions, regulate emotions when they are intense, and improve interpersonal effectiveness).
I have three adult children and enjoy writing and traveling. I not only teach mindfulness, but practice it on a daily basis.
I very much look forward to working with you as you travel your personal journey toward the life you want to live. Peace and stay mindful!

Great therapist!! She offers lots of helpful advice and I really enjoyed our session.
I've gotten a lot from our sessions.
Melissa truly make me feel heard and understood. She has helped me identify complex emotions, except and understand why's behind them. She also has a way of leading me to work through things without being pushy. She makes me feel very comfortable sharing my inner world.
Love her. It’s been so helpful to have someone understand what I’ve been through and be able to guide me towards healing.
Melissa is great. She had such amazing insight that I never thought I needed. I’m grateful for her feedback and guidance.
Melissa has been such a blessing in my life! She is down to earth and full of wisdom. She has helped me equip myself with helpful tools needed to tackle my illness and the challenges that can come with it.

An amazing councilor that listened and helped guide me through one of the roughest parts of my life. Could not recommend her enough!
Melissa is an amazing person and I’m very lucky to have her as my counselor. I’ve never had a connection with my counselor where I felt like I was understood. I feel like Melissa gets me and that’s a huge thing for me! She’s just great all around and I’m so thankful to have found her.
She is a great listener. Always willing to hear me out. Let’s me come to my own decisions and guides me without being pushy. I rather enjoy my time with her and I feel like she is helping me grow in a way I could not do on my own
She is clearly a very kind person. She's also well equipped with tools and experience to help guide you to a healthier way of thinking. And on a personal note, she's delightful!
Melissa helps me sort through my thoughts. She is easy to talk to. She offers helpful tools to help me.
Melissa is great! I’m an awkward person and don’t really like talking to ppl not even my therapist
I’m so thankful to be working with Melissa. I felt a positive connection with her during our first session. Melissa listens and validated that my concerns are real. I’m now starting to understand how my stress or fears might be linked to some childhood trauma. I look forward to each session and learning more about myself along with new ways to cope.
Melissa is a great counselor who listens to your issues first and then creates a great way to help with it. She has no bias and has always had an answer to any of my issues. She is punctual for sessions and periodically messages in-between sessions. She also sends information packets for your specific issue to do on your own time if you would like.
