Hello and Welcome,
My name is Melissa and I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in the state of Texas. My experience in the mental health field has been focused primarily on working with families with young children and the specific challenges that face families, parents, and children. Over the past year I have worked to become a more trauma-informed clinician by working with children ages 3+, adolescents, adults, couples, and families, to help them move toward healing and wholeness. I have been providing EMDR therapy to treat trauma and other issues for the past year and have seen the effectiveness of the treatment that is an evidence-based therapy for treatment of PTSD and additional mental health challenges including depression and anxiety. All that to say, I utilize treatments that are appropriate for you based on your history, current environment, and needs.
I was led to the mental health field after completing my undergraduate degree at Texas A&M University in Nutritional Sciences. My own experience "on the other side" being a client was an important step for me and has made me feel deeply connected to the work of healing from our past and living fully in our present. I know firsthand that reaching out for help and recognizing our needs can feel extremely vulnerable and uncomfortable but I also know the healing and relief that can come from working with a caring professional. By entering into a professional relationship, I was able to experience a healthy relationship and tap in to the healing processes that I believe are available within us. Putting in the work to heal past wounds is not easy but can be so worth it not only for you but for generations to come.
I am a collaborative therapist that uses person-centered, holistic, trauma-informed, and integrative treatment approaches to tailor your treatment plan to best meet your needs. I work best with individuals who are interested in having quality relationships in their life. I utilize evidence-based treatments primarily including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), Circle of Security Parenting (COS-P), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). In my experience, each client has unique needs that dictate the length of therapy. I believe in both structure and flexibility in therapy.
I would describe my style as empathic, authentic, and relational. You can certainly tell that I am human! I do not believe that therapy is a quick fix for all that ails but I do believe that with time, effort, and consistency we can work together to tap in to your innate resources to move toward wellness. As a person who has been on both sides of the proverbial couch, I know that therapy can be a powerful and important part of the journey! I wish you all the best as you carefully search for and select a clinician. If you choose, I look forward to being a part of your journey.

Amazing!!!! Really great! I have made great progress
I tell people about my therapist and better help all the time! I feel like I was matched up so well, and love video calls, especially right now! Thanks Melissa, you are really helping me to live and grow!
Melissa is warm, polite, professional, and easy to connect with. I feel comfortable being fully open during our sessions. I feel that the time is used efficiently. I look forward to continuing to work with Melissa in reaching my mental health goals.
Keep up the awesome work!
I am so grateful betterhelp.com aligned me with Melissa Mendez. I am 46-years-old and had resigned myself to living with a constant inner battle between depression, anxiety, and my desire to live a positive life. The war I have raged on a daily basis to rise above feeling depressed and out-of-control in order to be a positive, productive member of the human race has been exhausting. We had our first EMDR session today and I have hope, for the first time in a really long time, that my secret, inner war could get easier for me.
I think Melissa is fantastic and really listens and understands what I want to work on and has great suggestions and helps make me aware of things that I have never noticed.
