I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of South Carolina and a Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF). My Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree is in Counselor Education from the University of South Carolina (Columbia) and my Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree is in Business Education from Winthrop University (Rock Hill).
I have over 10 years experience in the mental/behavioral health field and 20 years experience as an educator. I have worked with individuals and families with a wide range of concerns and from various backgrounds. I have found that I am most effective with those experiencing depression, anxiety, career challenges, and those who are generally seeking changes in their life to move towards a better future for themselves.
I strive to provide my clients with a welcoming, confidential, safe space where they can speak freely about their concerns and thoughts. I believe in treating everyone with respect and the "Golden Rule" is essential to me - treat others the way you want to be treated. My approach to counseling is client-centered and solution-focused with a cognitive-behavioral foundation. I try to help identify patterns of thought that may be keeping you from your goals and we will work together to develop a plan to address those thoughts. Ideally, I would like for my clients to learn how to identify these patterns of thought for themselves and be able to independently adjust to their circumstances as needed.

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Melvin DuBard, Jr.. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Melvin is an exceptional listener who asks probing but non-threatening questions. He displays a high level of empathy and gently holds me accountable. I enjoy our sessions very much.
My therapist is knowledgeable, approachable, and gives push-back when it may be needed. I’m our sessions, I feel like I’m talking to a human who has worthwhile feedback, who both speaks and listens equally. This has been a hard balance to strike with other therapists.
Incredibly knowledgeable, supportive, and an amazing help in my life! Melvin is the best therapist I have ever had, and I'm so glad to have finally found a great match!
He is kind and listens well. If I want to talk about something completely different from the previous week we follow that path. I always feel safe to tell him anything that has me stressed or out of sorts. I am glad I was matched with him and highly recommend him to anyone that uses this app.
Melvin is great! He's been such a great help while I go through a time of need. He is calm and compassionate and offers great objective insights into my life. Very grateful for him!
I’m only a few sessions in but Mr. DuBard is excellent! He gets to the point without you feeling rushed. Very easy to talk to
I’ve never had a better experience with a therapist. Melvin listens attentively, asks great questions and provides helpful suggestions.
Very kind and helpful
The therapy I have been getting from him has been awesome. His inquiry based approach is exactly what I need because it allows me to use my own thoughts/feelings to support my growth. It is because of that I am willing to explore an area that I didn’t want to before. I would recommend him to other people.
Melvin is a great listener and analyzer
I can’t appreciate enough everything Melvin has done for me. It has helped my mental health, my marriage and my business. Thank you Melvin, I owe a lot of positive growth to you.
Melvin is great. Compassionate, great listener, solution-oriented, and responds to every message in a thoughtful and timely manner. It has been an absolute pleasure to be working with him.
Listens well and allows you to vent your frustrations but gives you criticism where it is needed.
Melvin made me change my mind about therapy. I never believed in therapy but he listens to me and allows me to unload on him. He never passes judgment and is always encouraging. He has really helped me address how my past traumas have affected my present behaviors and relationships. I would 1000% recommend him
Excellent listener and offers great advice.
Great person, very knowledgeable, and is a very warm and understanding person.
Melvin is great and always knows how to help me and when I need help.
I have only done a couple of sessions so far but Melvin has gone above and beyond making me feel heard and understood and helping me to come to understand myself.
Melvin is amazing, I just can’t find the time to fit online therapy in my schedule right now.
Melvin is awesome! Very attentive and truly cares. I’m only a month in and already seeing results in my life
