About Me

I am an Arizona Licensed Professional Counselor, as well as a Licensed Independent Substance Abuse Counselor since 2001. I also hold the National Counseling Certification from the National Board of Certified Counselors. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, stress and anxiety, relationship issues, parenting problems, and career challenges. I also helped many people who have experienced physical trauma or emotional abuse.

My counseling style is warm and interactive. I believe in treating anyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, psychodynamic and rational-emotive counseling. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.

I’m thrilled that I was matched with Monika! The second we started chatting she was super understanding of my wild rambling but was able to see and pick out what my anxieties were really focused on. During video chats she’s incredibly adept at listening and knowing when to pause to reflect. Within the first couple of days she had already given me resources that were local to me. She’s very caring, understanding and empathetic. She’ll offer you tons of options and you know that she’s going to be there for you each step of the way!

Monika Cheang is an excellent example of support. She is constantly reaching out to me and letting me know that she is there for me. When we've had our session I felt that she totally understands what I'm going through. I'm looking forward to working with her. Monika is phenomenal! After months of feeling like I had no one to turn to and as if my issues didn’t matter, Monika immediately stepped in and asked me what I wanted to work on and gave me methods. Within days I had my first video appointment with her; whereas, with my original provider I had been seen twice in three months. I get as often as I desire, which is weekly for me, and I’m able to set up the appointments to where they fit my schedule. If I’m having a stressful/not good day, I can simply send a message to Monika and she gives me tips and methods to help me get through the day. I love having a counselor I can rely on!

Monika is warm and caring. I talk A LOT, and she is a great listener and very patient. She validates my thoughts and feelings, asks good questions, and offers a lot of perspective, insight and compliments. She is kind and insightful. She is open and willing to hear and offer perspective that I didn't quite see before. I feel hopeful for the first time in a long time. This experience has been such a huge blessing. It's so nice to be able to check in periodically throughout the week in between our scheduled appointments.
