Hello, I am a mental health and substance abuse counselor with nine years of experience, including four years as a clinical supervisor. I have particularly focused on working with Depression and other mood disorders, anxiety disorders, substance abuse disorders, and trauma. I only work with clients in my home state of Ohio, so if you are not in Ohio, I would not be a good fit. I have a Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with a supervision endorsement, and I am a Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor.
I believe that everyone can make progress on addressing core issues, but asking for help is imperative. It's brave that you're looking for support, and I'll try to make the experience as comfortable and rewarding as possible. I work with some clients who are participating in therapy for the first time, and I work with others who have worked with several therapists and are looking for a different approach. Treatment needs to be individualized. My job is not to give advice or to solve problems for you, but rather to support you in confronting challenges.
We should work together in a way that is most comfortable and beneficial for you. You can message only, participate in live chat sessions, participate in phone sessions, and/or participate in video sessions. Or you can change from session to session, it's totally up to you. I have several spots open for live sessions each week (generally on weekday evenings and on weekend mornings), so you'll be able to schedule a session (if you choose to do so) for within a couple days of starting.
I believe that counseling is most effective when it is solution-focused and primarily deals with the present, and not so much the past. As a result, I'm big into goal setting/tracking goals, coping skills, and identifying cognition and feeling patterns. My primary approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Therapy should be based around your goals, and I don't subscribe to a one size fits all outlook. What I love most about providing mental health treatment is seeing clients grow and them recognizing how resilient and capable they are. It feels great to be a part of that journey.
Please understand that if you are experiencing thoughts of hurting yourself or others, this platform is not appropriate, and you should instead call 911. If you frequently find yourself in crisis situations or if you have had a suicide attempt or a suicide plan within the last six months, or if you experience command hallucinations (voices that tell you to do something), I would not be appropriate to work with, and you are encouraged instead to meet with a therapist in person. I cannot guarantee that I will respond to your message immediately. Also, if you must cancel a session, I ask that you give at least 24 hours notice so that someone else can claim that timeslot. If you repeatedly do not cancel within 24 hours, or if you no-show, I may not continue to work with you.
If you have any questions about what therapy will look like or any questions about myself, feel free to ask!

I feel comfortable and safe to share and I get the help that I need every time
Nick is very easy to communicate with. In our short time together he has given me some tool to help improve, and they are working!
Nick was absolutely wonderful. He was able to hone in on specific problems I was having, and catered to those problems. I'm thankful that for my first time on Betterhelp, I was able to be placed with someone that was so understanding. I would 10/10 recommend Nick to any of my friends or family.
Nick has been so helpful and responsive to me during this really tough season in my life. He is thoughtful and attentive and easy to talk to. His questions are thoughtful and suggestions are specific and relatable and so many of the exercises he's suggested have really helped. This is my first time really participating in therapy in general let alone online counseling and I highly recommend it.
I’m new to therapy in the last few months, I felt like a train wreck in the beginning and sometimes I still do..but here I have the most flexible therapy experience without missing out on the quality (I don’t have a perspective from meeting with someone in person) but between the two options I would choose the better help app again and again. Nick has been incredibly supportive, is helping me think differently and has been flexible with his own schedule if I need an earlier session. 10/10 would recommend
Nick is great! He makes me feel comfortable and he offers a lot of great advise. I love that he reaches out when he hasn’t heard from me. That makes me feel like someone truly cares about my well being. It’s nice to finally have someone to talk to that isn’t going to judge me for my thoughts and feelings
Nick has been wonderful. He offers good insight and is supportive in just the way I need him to be. I can honestly say I feel personally stronger with him in my corner!
It’s been great working with Nick! He’s knowledgeable and makes himself available.
He is very understanding of what I’m going through and definitely makes me feel better after every session. He responds to me quickly and is very supportive and caring.
