I am a licensed clinical professional counselor and a national certified clinical counselor. I completed my Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision with an emphasis in marriage and family studies at Kansas State University. I have worked as a counselor for over 10 years in many settings which include, corrections, military, hospital, college, mental health agency and private practice. I have worked with all types of clients experiencing depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, anger, substance and alcohol abuse, and personality disorders. My desire in therapy is to see individuals, couples, and families restored and healthy in every area of their lives.
I use an integrative approach to therapy. My primary treatment approach is client-centered therapy. I find that this is beneficial to clients because it helps to establish and maintain a strong therapeutic relationship. Additionally, I am a Certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Specialist (CCBTS) and I utilize family systems and an attachment approach to therapy with individuals, families, and couples who are experiencing distress in their interpersonal relationships.
My counseling practice includes working with individuals who are faced with a variety of issues including:

She's proffessional, friendly and down to earth.
Dr. Blackwell is very down to earth and caring! I feel that I have made so much progress on the issues that we have been working through.
She is incredible! I truly feel like she hears me and understands my issues, and is more than equipped to help me work through them. On a rare occasion that she misinterpreted something I was trying to say, I rephrased it, she got it, and was humble. She reflected on it and used that new info to help me. She is not prideful to the point of being so insistent on an ineffective measure that she won’t try anything else or step back to try and truly understand. She has a plethora of resources to help that she has sent me and that we have then discussed in sessions. Woman knows what she’s doing. I can’t speak high enough praises of her.
Ophelia Blackwell has been very helpful in getting me to think through issues. She is available, quick to respond, and communicates well.
