About me

I am a licensed clinical professional counselor and a national certified clinical counselor. I completed my Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision with an emphasis in marriage and family studies at Kansas State University. I have worked as a counselor for over 10 years in many settings which include, corrections, military, hospital, college, mental health agency and private practice. I have worked with all types of clients experiencing depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, anger, personality disorders and substance and alcohol abuse. My desire in therapy is to see individuals, couples, and families restored and healthy in every area of their lives.

I use an integrative approach to therapy. My primary treatment approach is client-centered therapy. I find this approach beneficial because it helps to establish and maintain a strong therapeutic relationship. Additionally, I am a trained EMDR therapist, a Certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Specialist (CCBTS), and I utilize attachment approaches in my work with individuals, families, and couples who are experiencing distress in their interpersonal relationships.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Dr. Ophelia Blackwell. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

Dr. Blackwell, what can I say. As with all medical professionals I encounter, I call her Doc. It's just something we do, if you know you know. I haven't had too many seasons with her, however it doesn't take me long to figure out if a particular person will be beneficial to be in my circle. I'm extremely guarded about who I let influence my life. Doc took the time to let me figure out what was needed to be discussed to help me in ways I didn't know needed to be fixed. She actually takes the time to listen to a problem and offer support and come up with a solution that won't hinder anyone. Doc is really good at making me feel at ease. Which is highly difficult for me to be able to do alone. She allowed me to break my own walls down, and not try to attack them. Like so many other therapists have attempted. We still have a lot of work to do, but I'm actually not afraid to do the work with her.

She is amazing. I thought this would not work and would be a big waste of time and money. I was wrong it's saving my marriage and my life.

Dr. Blackwell is absolutely phenomenal!!!! Words can't even begin to describe how great she is! Right off the bat she has been very supportive and provides logical advice in many different aspects of life. Without her I don't believe I would have been able to change my view on life as much as I already have in this short period of time. I give her the biggest heartfelt thank you as one could possibly give!!
