About me
I have had two careers which run concurrently: many years as a parish pastor and at the same time a mental health counselor. I am strongly invested in the LGBTQ issues because of my transgender grandson's amazing journey. As a hospice chaplain, I have provided bereavement support counseling to families. As a divorce mediator employing dispute management skills, I have guided couples in making parenting decisions that are in the best interests of their children. My passion is not to be a sage on the stage but a guide by the side with individuals and couples seeking solutions that are practical. I have expertise in cognitive -behavioral counseling, rational emotive psychotherapy, anger management (especially with men who abuse), and Life Work Planning and Career Development. I have modest experience with Ericksonian Hypnotherapy and Healing Story Telling. I endeavor to blend theory and practice, while affirming growth and risk-taking. I am a non-judgmental listener. I employ humor and unconditional support routinely to neutralize resistance to change. I am old fashioned person who still believes in unconditional positive regard and seeking a truth that sets people free.

Kind, thoughtful, encouraging, sensible
Rell is the best! He gives the best advice! He makes me feel very understood.
Rell Spickerman is a genuine man and a great therapist. His experience in life is what makes him very insightful, understanding, patient, and willing to lovingly confront. He helped me accept several things I needed to accept, deal with , and forgive others for. Now on a new path of growth, I'm very grateful he was my therapist.
I love Rell, he is so open and honest bringing real life situations from his own accounts into your own personal issues. He gives clear examples and visionary ideas to help with your situation making sure you’re not only heard but understood and have an idea of what to do to if you find you’re either losing your sense of self, or are becoming too indulged in your thoughts.
He has amazing listening skills and very helpful life advice. Rell has told me what I need to hear and has been very supportive and encouraging.
Rell has helped me see past my overthinking and has helped with me with my anxiety. I’m really grateful for the help he’s given and still will continue as it’s been improving life for me
Very promising!!!
Sometimes it's the patient listening without judgment that people needs the most. I think that's what he's good at because that's sometimes how the healing and the opening up starts. I appreciate that a lot.
I like to talk to Rell because he is a good listener but also gives very good advice and he is funny and not so serious, like talking to an old friend!
As a first timer to therapy I was so lucky to have been placed with Rell. He helped me navigate a very tricky family dynamic with warmth, humor and wisdom. Eternally grateful.
Very understanding empathic and provides helpful suggestions
