About me

My name is Rick Gantt. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor - Supervisor in the commonwealth of Kentucky. I have over 20 years of experience working as a mental health counselor and have a very diverse set of experiences through the years with preferences in bipolar and mood issues, grief and mourning, anger issues, couples counseling and past traumas. I also have considerable experience working with substance and dual diagnosis. I prefer an adolescent through adult and even geriatric clientele. I am experienced and do care about those that I work with and enjoy seeing my clients succeed.

I am an eclectic therapist which basically means that I use what I see is most effective for the Client.  Much of what we will talk about will be Gestalt therapy which attempts to help you be empowered to learn to make your own decisions and help to find the sources of issues within your past.  CBT and behavioral therapies are always useful in helping to see that by changing these thoughts you can easily change behaviors that follow.  I also use some psychoanalytic to help to see the influence that development has had on current thoughts and emotions.  And finally, Client centered which helps in creating an environment for learning.

Rick has been a pleasure to work with over the past year. His ability to help me navigate emotions that tend to send me spiraling into an anxious loop is what makes him so special. His empathy and blended approach towards getting me from an anxious spiral to making incremental progress daily to the goals we set made our time working together excellent.

Reflecting on our year working together, every goal I set out with at the beginning of our time working together was achieved. Rick has proven to be one of the most important people in my emotional growth.

Rick was an amazing therapist and just a great person to talk to. It was very easy to open up to him and he enabled me to think about specific behaviors that were hurting me. He guided me on how to identify situations and behaviors that were negative and put me in a position to manage them better. This was my first attempt at therapy and I probably could not have gained what I did with any other therapist. Rick was always interested in my culture and background and was very patient. I would definitely recommend him to anyone but unfortunately my time with him had to come to an end. Wish you the best, Rick.
