About me

I see counseling as a process in which you the client, and I, the counselor, having come to understand and trust one another, work as a team to explore and define present problem situations, develop future goals for an improved life and work in a systematic fashion toward realizing those goals.
I focus on clients self-awareness, self-acceptance, and empower them to change self-sabotaging behaviors.

I earned a Master of Arts degree in Student Personnel Services, Counseling from Northwestern State University of Louisiana in May 2011 and a Doctor of Behavioral Health from Arizona State University in December 2017. I am licensed as a Professional Counselor (#5115) with the Louisiana LPC Board of Examiners at 11410 Lake Sherwood Ave. North Suite A, Baton Rouge, LA 70816, (225) 295-8444. On May 12, 2020, I became licensed as a Professional Counselor (#83930) by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors in Austin, Texas. On March 25, 2022, I became licensed as a Professional Counselor (#C6691) by the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists (OBLPCT) in Salem, Oregon.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Dr. Rita Martin. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

Dr Martin is very compassionate and intuitive & offers advice & ideas vs just saying "that's really difficult or stressful " like so many counselors do that is patronizing.
She is a true testament of what a good therapist is.

Dr. Rita has been very encouraging and helpful to me so far. She helps put into words what I am trying to articulate and she has given me some really great advice on some family issues and feeling burnt out in Motherhood. My family has already benefited from some of the ideas she encouraged me that I’ve implemented. I am very thankful for my weekly chat with Dr. Rita.

The ti me I've spent with Dr. Martin has helped me gather tools to help maneuver through life with more ease and less anxiety. She's a very compassionate therapist, wholly professional, yet she brings her background and upbringing to make me realize that many of us have had difficult childhoods. The goal is to use those experiences to help others and to be able to feel better.
