Dr. Rita Martin

About Me

I see counseling as a process in which you the client, and I, the counselor, having come to understand and trust one another, work as a team to explore and define present problem situations, develop future goals for an improved life and work in a systematic fashion toward realizing those goals. My psycho-educational presentations provide information to improve life skills with discussion and mutual support within the group. I focus on providing evidenced-based brief interventions using trauma-informed care and psycho-educational groups to patients with chronic illnesses, mental health conditions, substance use disorders, and all addictions by empowering clients to heal from within themselves. I earned a Master of Arts degree in Student Personnel Services, Counseling from Northwestern State University of Louisiana in May 2011 and a Doctor of Behavioral Health from Arizona State University in December 2017. I am licensed as a Professional Counselor (#5115) with the Louisiana LPC Board of Examiners at 11410 Lake Sherwood Ave. North Suite A, Baton Rouge, LA 70816, (225) 295-8444. On May 12, 2020, I became licensed as a Professional Counselor (#83930) by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors in Austin, Texas.

I feel grateful to have been able to talk with Dr. Martin! She was there when I needed someone while I was going through a very sad time. She gives her honest advice and talks with kindness and compassion. I hope to work more with her in the coming weeks to help me understand myself more and become a stronger and better version of myself.

I have really enjoyed Dr. Martin and her expertise in inner child work and PTSD. Dr. Martin is very easy to talk to and offers tools and resources at the right time. She has been supportive, has challenged me and allowed me to grow deeper in understanding myself without feeling alone or overwhelmed by my emotions. I recommend Dr. Martin.
