Ryan Smith

(MA, LPC, NCC)

About Me

I am a licensed professional counselor in Texas and have years of experience working with a variety mental health issues and ages. I have specialized in working with the LGBTQ population, with anything from helping people through the process of figuring out their identity to relationship counseling to coping with any oppression they might face. I began my career working with individuals with anger management needs and currently have an extensive amount of experience with families and helping parents through any issues they might be facing.
I have knowledge and practice of many prominent counseling theories, and will adapt my counseling approach to your needs and goals. I tend to implement a solution-focused approach in order to not only hone in on what your goals are, but also to get you to those goals as quickly as possible. I enjoy using cognitive-behavioral techniques to confront anything that is standing in the way of your goals and to promote positive thinking.
I am a kind-hearted and a very open-minded counselor, and am proud to be accepting of all walks of life. I am able to incorporate religion-based counseling, but am also open to individuals that are anti-religious. I am eager to help you achieve your goals and would love to hear what concerns you have. Looking for help is a monumental step towards change and I hope that I can work beside you through the next steps!

Ryan Smith has a great knack for digging in a little deeper and asking questions that lead to more positive ideas and tools that I can use in my life. I had always thought I was a positive person and had not realized how negative I had become toward myself and others. Ryan has really helped with a paradigm shift of sorts and I am beginning to look at everyday events in a more positive light.

I don't have much to say except that Ryan has the ability to quickly become a friend than you can confide in... When I speak with him that's what I feel and I don't think of him as just a counselor and though many people may not think that's a good thing, that too me is priceless.

I was assigned Ryan Smith after feeling that I wasn't getting quality support from my previous counselor. I have to admit that I don't utilize him nearly as much as I should, but he has been incredible when I have. I have some pretty bad anxiety issues that stem from my younger years, but he has helped me reframe my thoughts so that this doesn't get the best of me. It's a work in progress, but he's helped me so much more than anyone else has! Also, he checks in on me when I haven't messaged him for a few days. He shows genuine compassion and care for my issues. I'd definitely recommend Ryan to anyone, especially people having issues with anxiety.

I have been working with Ryan for 6 months and I really like the way we get together. The distance we keep and respect. This all creates a very safe environment and thus makes our counseling very effective. Thanks to Ryan for also keeping track of my progress - I think I would not be able to hold on to a particular topic without him.

Ryan is rad. He listens carefully, is very supportive, helpful, like immediately helpful. He has made me feel stronger and I've only been speaking with him for about two weeks. He also gives me worksheets that are relevant to my issues and help a lot. Would definitely recommend. 10/10

Ryan has provided me a much overdue and necessary confidential outlet to bounce my ideas and struggles off of. I was in traditional face to face therapy for 2 years after my divorce, but I feel like I have been offered totally different vantage points I had not before considered with Ryan. I do recommend this service to anyone needing a confidential sound board and have actually already encouraged a friend to join.

Ryan is very helping. I am glad my stories are not dismissed by him. He finds every detail of my stories and discover the problems that I have never noticed before.
