About me

My world view is flexible and my understanding is strong concerning multicultural issues in clinical practice. As confident as I am of my acumen, being able to communicate when things aren't working, and then offering to refer the client to another professional who may be able to better aid them makes me a good, self-aware and humble counselor
As for my theoretical orientation, I have a fondness for Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy which has its merits working with substance abuse patients. However, Person Centered Theory (PCT) and Narrative Theory (NT) are what I perceive will be using with my clientele as follows:
My PCT approach would attend to the natural potential to self-actualize. I would focus on building a therapeutic alliance through the tenets - genuineness, unconditional positive regard, empathy – from which will serve to create an environment of safety, growth and discovery of the person s/he is to become.
Through my NT approach, I would elicit the stories or narratives s/he uses to inform and organize their sense of reality and explore how those stories describe and shape their perspectives on their past, present, and future. I would take into consideration how culture influences their stories. I would pay keen attention to detail being left out (the omissions) of their problem-saturated stories. Sessions would focus on re-authoring their singular story to establish (or, at least, consider) alternatives and options to their stories.

Written on Jun 05, 2024 after therapy with Sandy for 4 months on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, addictions, relationship issues, family conflicts, trauma and abuse, eating disorders, sleeping disorders, self esteem, anger management, career difficulties, bipolar disorder, coping with life changes, and adhd

Sandy is so very helpful with asking all the right questions and making you feel heard. She validates you where you need validation but also points out areas where you could grow, in such a way that does not make you feel attacked, but allows you to look inward. She listens and gives careful thought to her responses. I have truly enjoyed my sessions with Sandy and will absolutely be continuing our time for as long as necessary! Highly recommend!

Sandy is amazing. She is incredibly insightful and dissects your problem then goes over each piece individually which gives you the opportunity to understand the issue from many viewpoints.
