About me

I am licensed in California with 32 years of professional work experience. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, relationship issues, family conflicts, & motivation, self esteem, and confidence. I believe that you are the expert of your story and that you have many strengths that will assist you in overcoming things that challenge you. Taking the first step to seeking a more fulfilling and happier life takes courage. I am here to support you in that process.

NOTE-I do provide asynchronous text messaging only and prefer it for the following reasons: very flexible with no scheduling necessary, can refer back to our conversation at any time day or night and get a response anywhere from within a few hours to no later than 12 hours typically, with multiple exchanges in one day/evening when not busy, allows both parties to be on their own time schedule at their convenience, and for some it is easier to express thoughts and feelings in writing versus verbally or when on camera. I have worked this way for over a year and have had success with many clients who work well with this format. It is not for everyone, but for some, it does work really well and provides more contact than a weekly live session does. I hope to work with you soon!

Dr. Johnston is absolutely amazing. I should have started therapy a lot earlier in life, but THIS timing led me to HER!

Dr. Johnston listens well and offers good ideas. She has helped me a lot already and I’ve only been texting her for about a month.

Dr. Johnston has been very understanding, patient, and thoughtful throughout our conversations. She asks reflective questions that helped me better understand my emotions, postpartum struggles, family dynamics, and bipolar disorder in a deeper way. I appreciated that she created a space where I felt comfortable opening up honestly about difficult and vulnerable topics without feeling judged.

Her responses feel compassionate and balanced, and I especially appreciated how she helped me reflect on both my own emotional needs and the perspectives of the people around me. Therapy with her has helped me become more aware of my triggers, stress patterns, and emotional reactions in a constructive way.

She is wonderful.

Dr. Johnston is so kind and helpful. She always responds with understanding and tries to provide me a different perspective on whatever I bring her. My therapy journey has been tough, finding the right sounding board isn’t easy, and oftentimes mine would leave the practice and nobody at their office would communicate that with me. BetterHelp doesn’t seem to have that issue. Dr. Johnston has been my longest standing therapist and has helped me through a number of issues, big and small. Things I’ve wanted to work through for a long time, but also day to day interactions I feel like I’m not grasping well. Her messaging only style also makes it easy to send her a note in the moment I am struggling, which helps me be able to move through that moment and continue my day until her response can help me more. I don’t have to sit with my feelings until my next appointment (which by then honestly I would have forgotten the last 72 hours anyways or forgotten important details about how a situation occurred). Dr. Johnston has helped me rekindle a connection to myself that I really needed.
